Resumen del Editor

For 500 years, the Porters have concealed the existence of magic from the world. Now, old enemies have revealed the Porters' secrets, and an even greater threat lurks in the shadows. The would-be queen Meridiana, banished for a thousand years, has returned in the body of a girl named Jeneta Aboderin. She seeks an artifact created by Pope Sylvester II, a bronze prison that would grant her the power to command an army of the dead. Michigan librarian Isaac Vainio is powerless to stop her, having been stripped of his power and his place among the Porters by Johannes Gutenberg himself. But Isaac is determined to regain his magic and to rescue his former student Jeneta. With no magic of his own, Isaac must delve into the darker side of black-market magic, where he will confront beings better left undisturbed, including the sorcerer Juan Ponce de Leon. With his loyal fire-spider Smudge, dryad warrior Lena Greenwood, and psychiatrist Nidhi Shah, Isaac races to unravel a mystery more than a thousand years old as competing magical powers battle to shape the future of the world. He will be hunted by enemies and former allies alike, and it will take all his knowledge and resourcefulness to survive as magical war threatens to spread across the globe. Isaac's choices will determine the fate of his friends, the Porters, the students of Bi Sheng, and the world. Only one thing is certain: even if he finds a way to restore his magic, he can’t save them all...

love these stories, and others by Mr. Hines.

I love Jim Hines books. the characters are engaging and real, and invoke sympathy.

the narrator has excellent flow, but his impression of some female voices, (most especially in this case, Lena's) was distractingly jarring. He gave her a harsh, nasal quality that grated every time the character spoke.

Another great Libromancer book!

Everything I have come to expect from a Jim C. Hines book. Humor, unique characters, magic and of course Smudge the fire spider.

Great Series

I am really enjoying this series. The main character reminds me of myself and my brothers. We are all SciFi geeks, my adult brothers still play D&D. The authors references to Dr. Who and many others are just fun!

worst. voice. ever.

let me preface this by saying I absolutely love jim c Hines' works in general, especially his libriomancer series. That being said, the narrator/ voice actor in this is terrible. Cannot do female voices AT ALL and his reading timbre and pattern is almost Shatnarian in delivery. I listed for about 15 minutes before returning the book.

Hate the narrator

I read the first two books on my own but switched to the audio books as I can listen at my job. Males typically don’t do great with female voices but this guy was horrid, especially Leana’s voice. And it’s not at all what I imagined for Issac’s voice. Very disappointing for an “Audible Exclusive”.

Annoying Narrator

First let me say--I'm a big fan of Jim C. Hines in general, and while I wouldn't say that this series was as good as his two previous (Goblin and Princess series respectively) I certainly enjoyed it. Interesting concepts, fun, little literary easter eggs to chuckle about and generally compelling characters and relationships. However, voice actor who performs this particular version was the MOST obnoxious attempt at voicing a variety of characters that I have yet encountered. I typically re-read/re-listen to a story I enjoy at least 2 or three times--I am having difficulties doing that here. Every time I start reading I hear the sniveling, whiny voice he uses to identify Lena and want to poke a hole in my brain to make it stop.
