Resumen del Editor

FINALIST FOR THE NAACP IMAGE AWARD •

A collection of essays and stories documenting the lived theology and spirituality we need to hear in order to lean into a more freeing, loving, and liberating faith—from the hosts of the beloved Truth’s Table podcast

“The liberating work of Truth’s Table creates breathing room to finally have those conversations we’ve been needing to have.” —Morgan Harper Nichols, artist and poet

Once upon a time, an activist, a theologian, and a psychologist walked into a group chat. Everything was laid out on the table: Dating. Politics. The Black church. Pop culture. Soon, other Black women began pulling up chairs to gather round. And so, the Truth’s Table podcast was born.

In their literary debut, co-hosts Christina Edmondson, Michelle Higgins, and Ekemini Uwan offer stories by Black women and for Black women examining theology, politics, race, culture, and gender matters through a Christian lens. For anyone seeking to explore the spiritual dimensions of hot-button issues within the church, or anyone thirsty to deepen their faith, Truth’s Table provides exactly the survival guide we need, including:

  • Michelle Higgins’s unforgettable treatise revealing the way “racial reconciliation” is a spiritually bankrupt, empty promise that can often drain us of the ability to do real justice work
  • Ekemini Uwan’s exploration of Blackness as the image of God in the past, present, and future
  • Christina Edmondson’s reimagination of what a more just and liberating form of church discipline might look like—one that acknowledges and speaks to the trauma in the room

These essays deliver a compelling theological re-education and pair the spiritual formation and political education necessary for Black women of faith.

Truths Table - a MUST listen!

I’m never disappointed when these amazing women set the table and invite me as their sister to pull up a chair. Listening to them tell the story was an added benefit. They call it musings, I say equal parts history lesson, personal testimony and theological insight. I am blessed to call them sisters. I thank each of you for the depths you went to with every word.

I'm Speechless!

Inspirational! Motivational! Moving! Stirring! Truthful! Unapologetic! Unrestraining! Captivating! I can simply go on and on with adjectives, positive adjectives, regarding this book. I'm a Black female baby boomer and I have a millennial (son) and a Gen-Z (daughter). I have recommended this book to the both of them. This book speaks to everything about being a black woman in America--the tribulations and the heartache. However, they also give us abundant hope in this life and in the life to come. My favorite chapter is "The Keys to the Kingdom of God." The authors are humble and knowledgeable and more than anything they know how to apply the Word of God to our lived lives Thank you Ekiimini, Christina, and Michelle! Bravo!.

Necessary for all sistas

Truth’s table sistas allowed me to feel seen in a way I had never especially in a white evangelical space. I will forever be greatful for context they create, just like our Creator God.

Emotion outpouring to God

Truthful account of Christian worship in the Black church, wherein emotionalism is an accepted and expected behavior.

EXCELLENT AUDIOBOOK

I enjoyed everything about this. The personal offerings. The correction for the church. And they validate every black woman sitting at the table in the same voice and heart as the podcast.

"Truth telling is an act of love"

What an amazing compilation of three phenomenal authors, sharing their transparency and vulnerability with us. It's all the more powerful when you listen to the Audible version, hearing each author read her chapters, with all the nuance and inflection. I cried listening to Michelle read her chapter on Divorce. I cheered when Ekemini gave us questions to ponder in her chapter called Decolonization, allowing us to decipher whether our theology is rooted in Kingdom or empire. When Christina describes the physiological responses to debunking stereotypes in her chapter on Forgiveness, I felt it.

"Christianity predates white supremacy, and it will outlast it. Thanks be to God!"
Amen and AMEN

Diaspora Dreams

The context of this entire chapter could and should be made into a full feature film!! It put a bow on it all for me.
