While the crew of the UN Expeditionary Force's pirate starship Flying Dutchman are enjoying a luxury vacation cruise (not!), UNEF troops are still stranded on an alien-controlled planet.

Major Emily Perkins and her team are busy picking up the pieces, and it's not easy, because there is trouble on Paradise...

After reading other complaints of the full price charged for a less than full time book, I held off. But bought this anyway. Yes. It is short for the amount charged.

But, still, excellent writing, great plot, great world-building and tech.

Of course, R.C. Bray is one of the great narrators Audible has.

Enjoyed the book very much.

Yes, fun, yes expensive for amount of time in book

I am in book five now (the sixth book), but reflecting back 3.5 was my favorite so far because it develops other characters in the story line without the focus on Joe Bishop and Beer Can. I had a few repeating outbreaks of chuckles, and that is important in a story.

Why is this story so addictive? It is not just a lot of quirky action executed by unlikely characters, although it is indeed that too. There is a grand scale mystery slowly unfolding. It is a bit like the view a collection of ants would have crawling on an elephant. Joe is one ant, his comrades are others.

My favorite out of the first 5 books.

Loved this story about what was going on with those stranded on Paradise. I missed Skippy though haha I can't wait for book 4.
Craig Alanson's writing & R.C. Bray narrating is an awesome combination.

Loved It!!!

It kept me interested in the story. it's a follow up from the main story.

great story

I have enjoyed the Expeditionary Force Series so far but was slightly irritated that this wasn’t included with Book 3. Since it was not included with the previous book, i feel Craig Alanson should have lowered the price more than he did to reflect how short this book was.

Now that that’s out of the way, we the story is well written and shows several different viewpoints between the Ruhar, Kristang and the Humans (including those views of the Keepers). I actually enjoyed this book more than I thought I would because it didn’t include the growing monotony of Joe thinking up a plan that skippy overlooks, and skippy responds with “I hate my life. You suck Joe!” (Insert Monkey joke/comment here).

Overall, a good book.

Should have been included with Book 3 but a great change of view

Good extension to the series but felt like half a story. Can't recommend for a full credit.

Too short

The best and worst of book 3.5 is that it is a departure from the main story arc. If you are binge "reading" it takes a little while to get adjusted to the lack of Skippy, Joe and crew. However, the story is engaging and gives an interesting perspective of what the other humans in space are doing to help themselves.

A nice delay from the main story arc

As always RC Bray brings to life any story he reads. I enjoyed the audible performance but came away feeling unfulfilled with the storyline. I had read another review that stated this could have been woven into book 3 or 4, and I have to agree.
