While the crew of the UN Expeditionary Force's pirate starship Flying Dutchman are enjoying a luxury vacation cruise (not!), UNEF troops are still stranded on an alien-controlled planet.
Major Emily Perkins and her team are busy picking up the pieces, and it's not easy, because there is trouble on Paradise...

But, still, excellent writing, great plot, great world-building and tech.
Of course, R.C. Bray is one of the great narrators Audible has.

Why is this story so addictive? It is not just a lot of quirky action executed by unlikely characters, although it is indeed that too. There is a grand scale mystery slowly unfolding. It is a bit like the view a collection of ants would have crawling on an elephant. Joe is one ant, his comrades are others.
My favorite out of the first 5 books.

Craig Alanson's writing & R.C. Bray narrating is an awesome combination.

Now that that’s out of the way, we the story is well written and shows several different viewpoints between the Ruhar, Kristang and the Humans (including those views of the Keepers). I actually enjoyed this book more than I thought I would because it didn’t include the growing monotony of Joe thinking up a plan that skippy overlooks, and skippy responds with “I hate my life. You suck Joe!” (Insert Monkey joke/comment here).
Overall, a good book.
Should have been included with Book 3 but a great change of view
