Acerca de esta escucha

What would the world look like if everybody had everything they wanted or needed? Trekonomics, the premier book in financial journalist Felix Salmon's imprint PiperText, approaches scarcity economics by coming at it backward - through thinking about a universe where scarcity does not exist. Delving deep into the details and intricacies of 24th-century society, Trekonomics explores post-scarcity and whether we, as humans, are equipped for it. What are the prospects of automation and artificial intelligence? Is there really no money in Star Trek? Is Trekonomics at all possible?

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Manu Saadia has managed to show us one more reason, perhaps the most compelling one of all, why we all need the world of Star Trek to one day become the world we live in." (Chris Black, writer and coexecutive producer, Star Trek: Enterprise)

Lo que los oyentes dicen sobre Trekonomics

Con calificación alta para:

The Book "trekonomics" Explores The Economic Concepts And Implications Presented In The Star Trek Universe, Particularly The Idea Of A Post-scarcity Society Enabled By Advanced Technology Like Replicators. The Author Provides An Insightful Analysis Of How Such An Economy Might Function, Drawing From Various Star Trek Episodes And Movies. While The Nostalgic References And Thought-provoking Ideas Are Engaging, The Book Is Criticized For The Author's Political Leanings, Repetitive Examples, Mispronunciations By The Narrator, Lack Of Depth In Certain Areas, And Unrealistic Assumptions About Human Behavior In A Post-scarcity World. Overall, It Offers A Fascinating Exploration Of The Economics Of Star Trek, But Falls Short In Providing A Comprehensive And Balanced Examination Of The Subject.

Loved it til the end. And then we disagreed.

This book is a great inspiration. I have a fundamental disagreement about the value of space travel in economic terms, though, that the author does not see. Aside from that, I loved it.

Really Enjoyable-Now I Need to Watch Star Trek!

I picked this up as I thought it would be entertaining-an economic analysis of a fictional, post-scarcity place. I'm not a "Trekkie", so I think some points may have been lost on me, but it was engaging as an analysis of theory, and rather comical in presentation. I may need to go watch a few episode of Star Trek, and re-listen at some point of the future.

Not what I expected, but cool

This is an interesting take. While it is quite left-leaning, it actually told both sides.

Take or leave

I did enjoy the topic but feel as though I would have liked to read it rather than listen.

The speaker could get a touch drone-y at times but I did still enjoy the story.

Makes the future feel hopeful

I felt like the concepts of ppl changing themselves and allowing all else to fall in line an because it would be natural a real drive to want to start my personal change right away. Loved the read.

Very nice book full of different perspectives.

Interesting reading and somehow and eye opener. Recommended if you want to have a new perspective on world economics and were they are or could be leading to.

Phenomenal...

...but, for the love of Trek: Risa is pronounced Rye-sa, not Ree-sa.

Otherwise, this book is a delightful listen, especially for those who love Star Trek. I am not heavily into economics, but the comparisons made it accessible and entertaining. 10/10 would recommend!!

Excellent

I’ve long felt that fiction, especially science fiction has been an immeasurably powerful tool in creating our own real world reality. Trekonomics explores that concept and opens our mind to what is possible and what is in our hands when creating art and when making policy in a world where democracy is a choice.
