Resumen del Editor

In 1919 England, in the shadow of The Great War, many look to the spirit world for answers. But it will take an all-too-earthbound intrigue to draw in the discerning heroine of Anna Lee Huber's latest mystery.

It's not that Verity Kent doesn't sympathize with those eager to make contact with lost loved ones. After all, she once believed herself a war widow. But now that she's discovered Sidney is very much alive, Verity is having enough trouble connecting with her estranged husband, never mind the dead. Still, at a friend's behest, Verity attends a seance, where she encounters the man who still looms between her and Sidney - and a medium who channels a woman Verity once worked with in the Secret Service. Refusing to believe her former fellow spy is dead, Verity is determined to uncover the source of the spiritualist's top-secret revelation.

Then the medium is murdered - and Verity's investigation is suddenly thwarted. Even Secret Service agents she once trusted turn their backs on her. Undaunted, Verity heads to war-torn Belgium, with Sidney by her side. But as they draw ever closer to the danger, Verity wonders if she's about to learn the true meaning of till death do us part.

narrator not the best

This is the second story I have listened to and in both instances needed to slow down the playback speed. Narrator needs to pay more attention to punctuation or insert some if missing to keep narration from sounding like one long run on sentence. Also, narrator has a distinct sign song cadence that is at times distracting and tiresome to listen to. Overall enjoyed the story, but not the narration.

Great read

I enjoyed both of her books and hope another is offered. I thought Heather Wilds did very well reading with all characters.

Really Good Story

It was a very good story, kept me guessing. The history of the war presented as those who lived it & survived. Good love relationship and how that too had to heal after the war. Recommend

Narrator Heather Wilds drags book down somewhat

Heather has an odd narrating style that distracts from an otherwise excellent story. She sounds board and disinterested as she reads the thoughts of the main character, and she tends to end nearly every sentence on an upturned note, almost like a question. Many of her voices for other characters sound the same, making it hard to tell people apart. Dispute this poor performance, I am still going to get the next book. The writing is that good.

The narrator...

The story. Is very good. But the way. The Narrator reads. The story. It’s annoying. To hear.

Great story

The lady reading the story has a wonderful voice and accent, but her sing-song style almost made me quit listening. I managed to stick it out to the end because the story was very interesting.

Cadence of narrator's voice is horrible

Very good story. The conversations are slightly better, but the cadence of the narrator's voice is so distracting that I will not choose another book narrated by her no matter who the author is. The sing song way she speaks is grating.

Excellent story! Need a new narrator!

I’ve enjoyed Verity’s adventures so far. I read the first book in the series and listened to the second. I’m going to have to go back to reading as the narrator left a lot to be desired. She has a strange habit of ending virtually all sentences on a downward tone (sort of like a news reporter on a live newscast). The cadence was off-kilter and she often forgot to change back to her narration voice after delivering a character’s line. Very distracting to what is otherwise a well-layered, historical adventure that gives the reader insight to the aftermath of World War I in England and Europe.
