A Mother's Tragedy & Grief

This is a hearfelt essay from the mother of Trayvon, the young man whose killer was acquitted by the "Stand Your Ground" law. Sybrina Fulton pours her heart out about the tragedy and aftermath and terrible things she has had to endure. A voice of calm and reason in trying times, trying to adjust to modern day tragedies. Heartbreaking.

Well written essay. Sybrina Fulton did a good job narrating her essay. She brings up some good points and examples. Short read that I'll recommend to others.

This essay was impactful and activating. While in many ways it’s an account of Sybrina Fulton’s lived experience over the past ten years, the book was a call to action. Her words are inspiring and activating.

Trayvon: Ten Years Later by Sybrina Fulton is short but still so gut wrenchingly sad. Along with talking about the case and the aftermath, she also brings up being taken advantage of and no longer dealing with people that aren't up to her standards, which I love. I wish more people were like this.

Sybrina has my deepest sympathies and has for the past 11 years. I still don't understand how Trayvon's murderer was viewed as innocent.

Beautifully written and thought provoking

This is an essay from Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin, on her reflections ten years after his death. It was poignant and full of emotion. And while his death helped to launch the Black Lives Matter movement, this essay is more personal than a national movement. It was about Trayvon’s mother, her son, her grief, her faith, her strength, and her purpose all born from the tragic death of her son. “Sometimes you have to step into roles you did not ask for and that you do not want.” It is also a reflection of every POC who’s child has been lost to gun violence. “Being Black in America still comes at great risk.” It’s about a long standing problem that still needs to be addressed and rectified. Despite being short, it was well written, engaging and thought provoking.

The author did a phenomenal job narrating her words. It was particularly moving to her the essay in her own voice.
