Last year at Cherringham High, and for three girls that means facing the School Summer Challenge, a grueling fifty-mile hike across the Cotswolds, through thick woods, over steep hills, camping each night under the stars. But when one of them disappears in the middle of the night and is found dead in the morning, most believe a terrible accident has taken place. Was it really an accident? Jack and Sarah aren't convinced - and soon discover that secrets and lies can have terrible consequences... and always leave a trail... Set in the sleepy English village of Cherringham, the detective series brings together an unlikely sleuthing duo: English web designer Sarah and American ex-cop Jack.

Thrilling and deadly - but with a spot of tea - it's like Rosamunde Pilcher meets Inspector Barnaby. Each of the self-contained episodes is a quick read for the morning commute, while waiting for the doctor, or when curling up with a hot cuppa.

Co-authors Neil Richards (based in the UK) and Matthew Costello (based in the US), have been writing together since the mid 90's, creating content and working on projects for the BBC, Disney Channel, Sony, ABC, Eidos, and Nintendo to name but a few. Their transatlantic collaboration has underpinned scores of TV drama scripts, computer games, radio shows, and - most recently - the successful crime fiction series Cherringham. The narrator of the audiobook, Neil Dudgeon, has been in many British television programmes including the roles of "DCI John Barnaby" in "Midsomer Murders" and "Jim Riley" in "The Life of Riley". He is also known for his film roles in "The Nativity", "Sorted" and "Son of Rambow". In 2012 Dudgeon starred as "Norman Birkett" on BBC Radio 4's Afternoon Play series written by Caroline and David Stafford.

The reader seems incapable of pronouncing the names of American towns or regions. He says "Adeer on dak" instead of "Ad i ron dak" as it is pronounced in the area. Then he says "Quan teeco" instead of "Quant i co". These are not obscure names with odd pronunciations and considering the affront taken by Brits when we mispronounce names from their country, it seems an easy mistake to avoid.

mispronounciations galore

As always, I just love how Neil narrates, but sadly, this story gave away the culprits way too soon.

Another installment in the Cherringham series. It’s a quick read wherein a young woman is killed on a camp ring trip - accident or murder. It’s for Jack and Sarah to discover. Always a pleasure to see the two working together but solution was fairly easy to guess.

Quick listen mystery

I have few complaints ever about Cherringham books, the narrator, or story. Audible quality is wonderful. But, as with most other UK productions including an "American" character, there would be definite benefit to having an actual American give the dialogue a run-through. Jack may be from "NYC" but, from the first episode, he uses some words and expressions that we just don't. With this episode though, I just have to say something. Jack mispronounces Adirondack and Quantico. Names are notorious for having local pronunciations, but both of these are internationally known references. Does Audible hire preview listeners? If so, I'm in!

Cherringham is addictive: great little mysteries with excellent character sketches and satisfying plots that tied up
at the end. Wish they were longer and more frequent!

Love these delectable cozies!

These books are fantastic. This was one of my favorites. I have loved all of them

I adore this series

I love the Cherringham mysteries, my only criticism is that some of the American pronunciations and slang that are spoken by Jack are wrong. No NY cop would pronounce Quantico incorrectly, especially one who has been there. I did still give the performance 5 stars, because that doesn’t outweigh the rest of the performance.

Love these mysteries

If you have a couple of hours to listen to Neil Dudgeon read these short stories it is a pleasant way to spend that time. It’s easy enough to follow along while sorting through various chores and it certainly isn’t boring. Can I figure things out before the end? Not always, but I still enjoy the banter and pace of these stories and the characters that have become like family.

One pet peeve of mine is for readers to be sure of pronunciations. Quantico and Adirondack were nearly intelligible. Other than that, love Neil’s reading!

Cherringham a pleasant place to visit.
