Every century, six dragon eggs inexplicably fall from the heavens. Once hatched, each dragon bites a young adult, forever merging their souls, granting them an elemental ability, and creating the next generation of Bitten Knights. No one in the north was surprised when Maximus Duskfell found his hand between the fangs of the newest dragon hatchling, as he had proven to be the ideal Bitten Knight-fearless, unyielding, and filled with unlimited potential. But when a twist of fate diverts Maximus' path, his unlikely brother, Darren Duskfell, is forced to secretly inherit his sibling's identity, destiny, and dragon... a dragon that loathes his very existence. If the training doesn't kill him, the Swarmborne, the half-human, half-insect warriors might. He may not have any of his brother's physical talents, but he may just have the wit and the will. Meanwhile, clear on the other side of the world, their friend Ryker has become entangled in a deadly cult that claims to have uncovered the dark truth of the Bitten Knights. They've aligned with the Swarmborne in hopes of accomplishing their goal: butcher the Bitten Knights and resurrect their scaly gods.

A book that’s easy to jump right into. The characters are fascinating and it’s action packed. The main character is definitely not the archetypal hero and so many times the story has me wondering and guessing where it’s going to go next. Not an obvious plot, but a great one. The world building is so fun and different. Can’t wait for the second book! I’ve listened to the audible a couple times. Fun different voices that bring the characters to life. Well done!

A super fun dragon fantasy about the underdog finding his courage. Loved it! And the narration is excellent!

Great narration and story!

Honestly, I haven't been this absorbed with dragons and magic since Eragon or Game Of Thrones (The books, never watched it). I'm so happy that I get to experience this early and I'll be getting the next one as soon as it drops this month. I hate that I am so early, because I dont have all of them available yet. The anticipation will kill me, but it will be worth it for the rest of these books. I can't wait.

Fresh Air!

Loved it beginning to end but after reading so many books like this it felt a tad generic. MC is a child I understand but dang, can’t he understand the situation he’s in lol. Keeping on the magic (fury) is awesome essence of fourth wing. Loved that the dragons can shrink and grow when needed along with the different classes. Overall good read can’t wait to see what’s in store next book!

MC better have a crazy mature arch

This book is a great listen the voices of each and every character come to life through this narration along with the fact that the story didn’t go as I had expected and left me wandering what was to happen next. I took little time to finish the listen and will be awaiting the release of the second book in this series

A great story and great voices

The narrator has a good voice for the characters, though I did have to slow it down a little bit to catch some of his words. There are many twists and revelations that keep you guessing. I’ve listened to this twice and I’m still not sure which side is good and which is evil. I’m excited to see where the story goes. On the negative side there are a couple time jumps that left me confused which is why I had to listen to it again to make sure I understood the story before leaving a review. Eager for the next installment!

An interesting listen hoping for another soon.

A crybaby hero and a lot of anxiety. Glad to finally find a book where the hero and his dragon do NOT get along 😂 A refreshing read after so many disappointing dragon books! The narrator was amazing and brought it all to life!

Refreshing!

The story asks the question: What if you made dragon riders work kind of like werewolves? More mature tone than most draconic fiction and TD Orel manages to bring an original take on the magic of dragon riders. The protagonist is genuinely introspective and unique. This book is the first book in the series, and the characters develop throughout. Red Rising + Eragon + Unique Magic System with a dash of Lovecraft thrown in for good measure.

An excellent beginning

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this story! Beautifully and dynamically written, plenty of big and small plot twists and fantastic character development to keep the reader entertained and engaged! The orator did a great job of bringing the characters and the story to life. Can’t wait to read/listen to the sequel!

My Quick Takes:
- 5/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
- Genre 📚 Upper YA Fantasy
- Language 🤐 mild
- Spice ❤️‍🔥 none
- Content 🤔 violence/killing, domestic abuse, death of family member, past infidelity

This is THE move for an Upper YA Fantasy read! I am so excited to continue on in this series!

What’s not to love? A sick cover design, dragon riding, twists and turns throughout the plot, multiple points of view, weird insect inspired characters. I mean…. come on, the teens are gonna love it.

The main character gave big time Hiccup from How to Train your Dragon! I loved his self deprecating humor and his grit and determination. There’s some great character development and found family. The reader is quickly thrown into fast moving plot, and I was hooked right from the get go. There’s plenty of chapters that end on cliff hangers to keep readers wanting more.

I listened to this on audio and the narrator’s voice reminded me of Paul Sparks, it was a great narration to listen to. Very excited to have this in my list of YA fantasy books I can recommend! I personally recommend this as an upper YA read due to the mild language sprinkled throughout and themes of domestic abuse.
