The 50th anniversary edition of the beloved classic that Stephen King has called “THE great time-travel story.” Featuring a brand-new introduction by the New York Times bestselling author of Recursion, Blake Crouch.

When advertising artist Si Morley is recruited to join a covert government operation exploring the possibility of time travel, he jumps at the chance to leave his mundane 20th-century existence and step into the past. But he also has another motivation for going back in time: a half-burned letter that tells of a mysterious, tragic death and ominously of “fire which will destroy the whole world.”

Traveling to New York City in January 1882 to investigate, he finds a Manhattan teeming with a different kind of life, the waterfront unimpeded by skyscrapers, open-air markets packed with activity, Central Park bustling with horse drawn sleighs—a city on the precipice of great things. At first, Si welcomes these trips as a temporary escape but when he falls in love with a woman he meets in the past, he must choose whether to return to modern life or live in 1882 for good.

“Pure New York fun” (Alice Hoffman, New York Times bestselling author), Time and Again is meticulous recreation of New York in the late nineteenth century, exploring the possibilities of time travel to tell an ageless story of love, longing, and adventure. Finney’s magnum opus has been a source of inspiration for countless science fiction writers since its first publication in 1970.©1995 Jack Finney, All Rights Reserved; (P)1995 Simon & Schuster Inc., All Rights Reserved; Audioworks is an Imprint of Simon & Schuster Audio Division, Simon & Schuster Inc.

I've always really enjoyed Time Travel premises for books and really enjoyed this whole book! I was quite surprised to find out what the promise at the end was, and how the main character carried it out. I also enjoyed the ending...

There is so much more to this book. Abridging it is a major disservice. I can't recommend it for that reason.

Abridged a mistake

The other customer reviews were so eloquent, that I can not add anything to them. But like the other reviewers -- I loved this book! The author, the narrator, the little touches of periodic background sound. It was utterly absorbing and entertaining and thought-provoking. I wish Campbell Scott would narrate more -- he is fabulous.

I loved it!

The description says "Unabridged", but the closing credits said "Abridged". Now I have to read the book to find out if I missed anything! There were some transitions that seemed a bit awkward, but not enough to give one pause.
Good story that ended too soon, and on a possible paradox, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Not the best narrator I have ever listened to, but better than the sample of the other version of the same book. That voice was too deep and monotone.

Abridged or Unabridged - That is the question

I lived in NYC for 15 years. A friend bought this book for me and said that everyone was reading it. It changed how I looked at the city. I would walk in Central Park and I could see it in the 1800. The story is gripping and sadly, in the Audio version you miss the beautiful old photos.( I do have the paperback as well because of that) I wish I could travel back in time as well. I think that NYC would be my destination too. I have lent this book to many people. I have also bought it as a gift to some. This one will be in my library forever. And the fact that it takes place in the Dakota building is of course a plus. I think all in all I have read this book 4 times and listened to it once. This will be the second time.

Best book EVER
