This Was My House First

When 11-year-old Jessica Marlow's parents divorce, her entire life is sent into a tailspin. Her mother moves her and her siblings across the country and opens a foster home.

At first, it is exciting for Jessica. She loves the vivaciousness of her home with its constant parade of new children moving in and out. When tragedy befalls the family, Jessica's own guilt and confusion lead her to question not only her role in the catastrophe, but in her ever-changing family, as well.

Jessica finds herself caught between staying in the chaotic atmosphere she has come to call home or leaving her whole life behind and finding her own place in the world.
