Acerca de esta escucha
The Whitewashing of Christianity is informative, insightful, and inspirational, telling a history that's often hidden, ignored, revised, or unknown. Confrontational, but not combative, it details how the American church has helped create and maintain the false narrative that Christianity is a White man's religion and how it has presented almost every person in Scripture and most of Africa's theologians and martyrs as White men and women. You will be given countless references that chronicle what whitewashing is, how it has been maintained, the negative effects it has caused, and more importantly, how we can stop it.
The Whitewashing of Christianity:
- Takes you on a historical, sociological, judicial, and religious journey of how Christianity has been whitewashed
- Addresses the negative effects of whitewashing and how many view Christianity as a religion of oppression
- Presents a full narrative of redemptive history, which finds it roots in Africa
- Highlights African theologians, philosophers, teachers, and martyrs
- Addresses claims from those that oppose Christianity with sources, Scripture, and historical facts
- Equips people on how to engage inaccurate claims of Christian history and slavery
- Addresses the concerns of those that think Christianity is not an indigenous faith of people of African descent
- Equips churches and organizations with ways to combat whitewashing and move in unity
The Whitewashing of Christianity leaves us with hope that what's been done historically can be changed. It is compelling, not combative and written from a place of love and desire to fight for presenting Christianity in a diverse way and not a culturally monolithic one. Gay challenges popular views that are historically unfounded and issues a challenge that needs to take place within the Christian church. While challenging and eye-opening, you'll be made aware of a hidden past of accomplishments and contributions of Africa, confronted with a hurtful present of whitewashing effects.

Africa has played a decisive role in the formation of Christian culture from its infancy. Some of the most decisive intellectual achievements of Christianity were explored and understood in Africa before they were in Europe. If God is holy, then he can’t sin. If God can’t sin, then he can’t sin against you. If he can’t sin against you, shouldn’t that make him the most trustworthy being there is? Best-selling author Jackie Hill Perry, in her much anticipated follow-up to Gay Girl, Good God, helps us find the reason we don’t trust God - we misunderstand his holiness. In Holier Than Thou, Jackie walks us through Scripture, shaking the dust off of “holy” as we’ve come to know it and revealing it for what it really is: good news.

Historia
The American political scene today is poisonously divided, and the vast majority of white evangelicals plays a strikingly unified, powerful role in the disunion. These evangelicals raise a starkly consequential question for electoral politics: Why do they claim morality while supporting politicians who act immorally by most Christian measures? In this clear-eyed, hard-hitting chronicle of American religion and politics, Anthea Butler answers that racism is at the core of conservative evangelical activism and power.

Historia
Beginning with contemporary efforts to reckon with the legacy of white supremacy in America, Jones returns to the fateful year when a little-known church doctrine emerged that shaped the way five centuries of European Christians would understand the “discovered” world and the people who populated it. From this vantage point, Jones illuminates how the enslavement of Africans was not America’s original sin but, rather, the continuation of acts of genocide and dispossession flowing from the first European contact with Native Americans.

Today’s right-wing Evangelical Christianity stands as the very antithesis of the message of Jesus Christ. In his new book, Christians Against Christianity, best-selling author and religious scholar Obery M. Hendricks Jr. challenges right-wing evangelicals on the terrain of their own religious claims, exposing the falsehoods, contradictions, and misuses of the Bible that are embedded in their rabid homophobia, their poorly veiled racism and demonizing of immigrants and Muslims, and their ungodly alliance with big business against the interests of American workers.

How did a libertine who lacks even the most basic knowledge of the Christian faith win 81 percent of the white evangelical vote in 2016? And why have white evangelicals become a presidential reprobate's staunchest supporters? Jesus and John Wayne is a sweeping account of the last 75 years of white evangelicalism, showing how American evangelicals have worked for decades to replace the Jesus of the Gospels with an idol of rugged masculinity and Christian nationalism.

Historia
In this classic theological treatise, the acclaimed theologian and religious leader Howard Thurman (1900-1981) demonstrates how the gospel may be read as a manual of resistance for the poor and disenfranchised. Jesus is a partner in the pain of the oppressed and the example of His life offers a solution to ending the descent into moral nihilism. Hatred does not empower—it decays. Only through self-love and love of one another can God's justice prevail.

Excellent and necessary reading material for all.
Excellent and necessary reading material for all. However, I must correct the author's statement that Ethiopia was the first non-Jewish conversion. The truth is that Ethiopia practiced Judaism going back to Queen Sheba when Queen Sheba embraced the God of Israel after visiting King Solomon. 1 Kings 10-11,2 Chronicles 9. Ethiopia was the first nation to embrace both Judaism and Christianity. Hence, the reason Jesus mentioned Ethiopia by name. See Matthew 12:42. Ethiopia is the cradle of life and foundation of the Abrahamic Faith, which includes Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. That truth should be clarified.

important for the whole of Christianity
if you are in any way interested in deconstructing and removing oneself from your centric theological concepts and thought this is a must read. the author painstakingly goes through the ideas of why and how Christianity was whitewashed. and provides poignant answers to the house the what's the wise we should make sure that we understand the correct historical regional and theological concepts of the bible. it is important that we realize that Africans specifically in Northern Africa were crucial to the development of theology and ultimately to the development of Christianity.

Great story
At times the audio jumped. some thoughts were not complete because of this. I don't know who is at fault for the poor audio quality but please fix the glitches in the system. for that reason only I recommend the print version.

I enjoyed this book tremendously
In the past when the country has been in an uproar over Racial issues , as an African American man in a predominantly white church, I've been a bit lost for effective ideas and solutions to remedy the problems, with this book I am no longer lost , I can now point to a resource to help identify and remedy our Racial Issues in the body of Christ and continue to be the source of Hope for the world.

Convicting, Thought-Provoking & Life-Changing
This is one of the most enlightening books written concerning God's ordained plan concerning His intentional integration of black and brown people in His redemptive plan.

I embrace the challenge
This book was a challenging book to read. It forced me to rethink many things that have been indirectly taught to me throughout my life. I highly recommend this point though. It will make you uncomfortable but it will teach you the truth about many things Christianity has taken for granted.

Excellent Content, Poor Recording
This recording is incomplete. Chapters 7, 9 and the conclusion end mid-sentence. In other chapters, the sentences and phrases repeat accidentally. I would avoid this title until Audible fixes the recording.
The book itself, however, is excellent. Gay’s thoughts are clear and full of wisdom. He makes unassailable arguments about how white centering has damaged the Church and defamed the Gospel. This is a title every Christian…especially my fellow White Christians….should read.

Beautifully written
This was THE best book I have read on the subject. So thorough and I especially think this should be a mandated read in allllll Seminary schools.
Persons of African descent are leaving the faith in droves due to intellectual laziness and historical inaccuracies depicted in written and oral media. This book was not written to incite white guilt, but to highlight African contributions to church history in efforts to restore dignity and significance for black persons while reading Scripture. This is not a black issue but a church issue as we are all made in the image of God. God was intentional in presenting this throughout Scripture and unfortunately some of His followers have attempted to distort this fact. Whitewashing Christianity addresses these systemic issues with boldness and truth.
I’m in awe and even more in love with the Gospel after reading this book! 10/10 and I don’t say that lightly.
