Hard to....

Hard to follow. I lost interest in the book after just a few chapters and I just couldn't follow the characters.

Good story, engaging characters, fast-paced, a welcome addition to my audio library. Nice work! :)

Loved this series! The adventures, traveling around trying to find the weapons! The challenges the wars! Who will win! Find out! Narrators were amazing!

The story needs more....

It was hard to get started but before the end of chapter 2 I was into the story, but only because of the narrator. Greg Patmore is impressive with his voices. Jamie Edmunson does write a good story. I like a little more depth and dialog though. He gets to the battles quickly and ends them just as quickly. It just seems to be missing a little depth. Definitely does not keep you on the edge of your seat.

Definitely worth the credit!

Before you read further, please be aware that there's a book 4. This is an excellent series involving a huge cast of characters, a wide variety of "new" races, and plenty of plots and intrigue. It's a bit on the darker side of fantasy and a couple of brutal scenes in book 1 were reminiscent of Abercrombie. That said, at least one of those horrible events helped one character advance the plot and wasn't completely gratuitous. That scene in particular is mercifully short. The world-building is very nicely done, and the main characters display more than one dimension. There are loads of political intrigue as well, however the books don't get bogged down with them and the author throws a LOT of fight scenes in the mix. Like many others, it took a while to get used to the 2-narrator format, however both of them were very good. Greg Patmore in particular has an amazing arsenal of voices. I flew through this collection in 2 weeks and I started book 4 already. Don't wait like I did!

Excellent book

This was a very engaging story. I enjoyed it from the beginning to the end. The only problem i Had was remembering the names of the many characters. All in all I recommend this book.

Great story. Good Narrators

Loved the storylines and characters as their backgrounds played roles in the intertwining paths of the events. The narrators were able to voice different accents which helped build the world view of characters you meet from different lands. Unfortunately, both the male and female actors did not alter the inflection, tambor, or tone that well when presenting dialogue, making it hard to identify who was talking. A final irritant for me was the voices did not change whether the character was speaking or shouting. I recognize this may be a stylistic choice but it made it harder to relate emotionally to some of the characters when the words being said have no indication that the character is struggling for their life. Overall, I would still recommend this series as the writing was wonderful and world-building enticing. I look forward to the final book.

enjoyable story but it....

took me a long time to feel invested in the characters. female voicing leaves a lot to be desired, often flat and emotionless. male voicing often leaves too little to the imagination. good to listen to once... but I wouldn't give it a second run.

A well done presentation of a well crafted story.

Jamie Edmunson tells a very big tale, and Bridget Thomas and Greg Patmore breathe life into its telling. Good Stuff!

Top notch character and world development.

This series grabs and keeps your attention right from the start. I definitely going to be getting the 4th installmet. I HAVE to know how everything ends!
