Resumen del Editor

After losing his home and savings to his lying son, widower Robin Bentley has a breakdown and is consigned to a care home for the elderly. He’s deeply depressed and has lost himself. As his health improves, he feels imprisoned and decides he must escape.

While sneaking away, his path is blocked by a scary, battle-worn bull terrier, which is being hunted by the police. Very frightened, Robin distracts its attention with food from his rucksack, and then hurriedly makes the long walk to his planned hideaway at a seaside caravan park. But the fearsome beast follows him relentlessly...

He curses his luck, but in time, realises the dog is a fellow fugitive and takes pity on it. At great sacrifice, he takes care of it and grows to love his ugly companion.

An elderly Chinese widow, living with her cat in an adjacent caravan, is very alarmed by the arrival of her scary-looking new neighbours. Many trials and misfortunes follow, and the dark side of life battles with love and companionship, to shape their future.

A Delightful Heart-Warming Read

The Way Back is a wonderful little character-driven book filled with emotions and experiences that connect us all. The characters are well-developed and the story moved forward in a lovely way.

Two people, a dog, and a cat. It doesn't get much simpler than that yet the book is much more than it seems at first glance. At the core it reminds us it's not only never too late to start over, but also it's never too late to find love.

If you're looking for a well-written book that will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, this just might be the book for you.

A Charming Story

This is a new author and narrator for me. As I have recently been reading some very long books, I was looking for a short book and this one qualified. . To change the length of books periodically makes a great break. Our protagonist in the story is Robin Bentley, a widower. His son has taken his home and life savings and put him in a care home. He escapes and heads to the ocean. Along the way a feral Bull Terrier starts to follow him. He decided to call him Butch.

The book is well written and is delightful to read. The book is written in the first person. Robin meets an elderly Chinese woman and her cat, Bo. I enjoyed reading this book. It made for a delightful change of pace and provided some insight on growing old. I guess the book could be classified as emotional fiction.

The book is four hours and forty-nine minutes. Martin Carroll does a good job narrating the book.
