Good book if you understand what it is about

I am an avid listener of audiobooks. I average anywhere from 3 to 5 a week. I also have no problem picking up book 8 in a series first if it's all I can find and then jumping around. All that being said the author did a very poor job explaining when this book takes place in the timeline as well as several other things such as what the " legend" is, and just why the whites were capturing Crestlin, other than the fact that he is the main character.

Once you understand just what the heck is happening it's a great book

Awesome performance!

The premise was interesting and unique. I would definitely read the next installment, not to mention, the narration was flawless!

A solid entry

This is a solid entry in the Recluse series. It is one if the harder reads, almost painful at times, but the payout us there and it provides a necessary background for so much else in the series that it should not be missed.

About time, old favorite now in audible

One of my favorites as a teenager. Fascinating magic system. Pleasure to listen/read again.

not one of his better books

narrator was great. the story was forced. I really like the authors writing and many of the other books in the series but this one was weak with a plot that seemed forced and hard to follow.

Read just the way I did in my head

I love this series. Hayborn is an excellent narrator, capturing the story and planting not only a great audible experience in the listener's head, but a visual one as well. Better than any movie experience.

Addictive

Hard to stop listening to. I would have to go back a chapter the next day as I would start falling asleep each night.

So much less boring than the first book

The picture painted of the emotional turmoil made me cry. Looking forward to The Order War.

Book 2: Recluse

As a stand-alone story, The Towers of Sunset has little to stand on. A great deal of background information that isn’t provided is needed to understand much of the story.

With that said, it’s a fun addition to the Recluse canon. Creslin isn’t my favorite main character, but he is complex and Modesitt does a good job developing his character. If you haven’t read anything else in the Recluse arc, I wouldn’t start here. But if you love Recluse, it’s a great addition.
