Modesitt tells this from the "White" side. Showing the struggles of men & women of honor and dishonor from that side. Look to see where the heart lies and what they gain from their actions.

One of the best Recluce books

Cerryl's story is one of the all time best in this sequence. It gives us the White side of the equation for the first time, and us definitely one of the most interesting paths that a Modesitt protagonist follows. Highly recommended.

Modesett Recommends reading his Recluse books in publication or but for most it does not matter. This is one of the exceptions. This is the second half of the book the White Order. At a minimum you should have read that book before this. This book and the White Order are the counter points to the story in the Magical Engineer, and though not as absolutely required as having read the White Order it is a much better experience if you have read that as well.

thought I was going be bored with out because you already know how it ends from book 3 but I absolutely loved it!!!

What I find interesting about this book is that if you are reading/listening to the series in order, you have followed this same war from the other side. Modesitt does not do pure good vs evil but to now have a hero (as imperfect as each is, they are still the heroes) on both sides of the same battle is somewhat disturbing, or maybe thought provoking.
I am about to reach the point where I stopped reading this series and look forward to listening to the full tale. Kirby Heyborne helps keep the story going for me.

Reads like a high school economics book...

There is only one accurate way to describe L E Modesitt's books.... slow... meandering... mostly enjoyable... I have read at least a dozen of his books... more than once... I enjoyed the first book... The second book had a captive audience .... who enjoyed the first book and wanted to see what happened to these characters... I no longer care what happens to these characters!!! Painfully slow... My highschool economics teacher could write this....
