Another Clive Cussler Adventure

As always Scott Brick did an excellent job narrating. He is probably one of the main reasons that I continue to listen to Clive Cussler. This story could have been a little more condensed and a little less contrived. I know it’s fiction and an adventure but maybe a little more in the realm of believability would be nice. Would I buy it again? Of course I would.... It’s Clive Cussler and Scott Brick!

Gotta Love Isaac Bell

The Isaac Bell stories are my favorite Cussler stories. I love how they are incorporating him into the other character and storylines and hope they continue. I enjoyed hearing this story to see the other side of the Dirk Pitt novel 'Raise the Titanic!'

Bell books are always good

I enjoyed it. Slow in parts but overall it was as good as any other Issac Bell book

Great Circle Back to Raise the Titanic

One of the first Clive Cussler books I ever read was Raising the Titanic and I loved it, but there was so much more to the story about how the minerals were thought to be on board and this book told that story! Loved the fact that Cussler and Du Brul were able to weave Isacc Bell into the story and bring his and Pitt's stories together! Loved the trains and ships and the feeling of being transported back to the early 1900s. Another great read!

Isaac bell brilliant yet again

Clive in all his books takes on on such amazing believable adventures and this is yet another. I love the character of Isaac bell along with the time frame of history it takes place. The storyline, the characters, the writers, the narration all work to perfection. If you love history, love mysteries, love crime drama you will enjoy this book and the entire Isaac bell series.

Captivating

It is a wonderful story with a nice tie in to Raising the Titanic. A must read and listen.

good story. fills in blanks in the Issac Bell series. a little predictable in story line as ending is given away in the beginning

Excellent crossover

This novel is an excellent cross-over between Dirk Pitt and Isaac Bell. It fills in the gaps in the Raising the Titanic novel.

Less than great, but still a Cussler!

To me, Clive Cussler and his Co-Writers create the Gold Standard for adventure stories. It doesn't matter which of his series: Dirk Pitt and NUMA, Juan Cabillo and the Oregon Files, Sam and Remi Fargo, or my favorites -- Issac Bell, they are all a history lesson wrapped in an adult size Adventure. They are for adults what Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Tom Sawyer, Huck Fin, Spy School etc are for young readers. They are a portal to a different time and place where adventure and discovery mix with danger and success.
This book is, without a doubt, interesting, plausible, and engaging. I guess I only feel less enthused ONLY because in this story, the usually brilliant and clever Isaac Bell of the Vandorn Detective Agency is constantly in pitch battles with the bad guys rather than outwitting them. His usual array of sleeve pistols and hidden knives are missing in favor of truncheons and prolonged (to the point of becoming tiresome) brawls. Rather than uncommon observational skills and brilliant deduction, it feels more like stumbling in and out of lucky guesses.
All of that said, this is still a masterpiece of writing. And, as always, to say Scott Brick is a preeminent and unsurpassed narrator grossly understates his talent.
All in all, great book - just be ready for persistent brawling fights, the killing of ....well just about everyone, and a little less cleverness to escape the bad guys.
