This sharp and incisive audiobook ends up with two visions for a new Europe - one hopeful, one pessimistic - which paint a picture of Europe in crisis and offer a choice as to what, if anything, we can do next. But perhaps Spengler was right: 'civilizations, like humans, are born, briefly flourish, decay, and die'.

Reality Dispassionately Examined

A well-researched, apolitical, rational examination of the actual effects and second-order consequences of uncontrolled immigration. As he always does on any topic he examines, Douglas Murray nails it.

Fantastic Insight Into a Grim Reality

I would highly recommend this book. Even if you are a person who would not normally agree with someone like Douglas Murray it is a must read. The insight this book gives into the fundamentally suicidal nature of modern day Europe is fascinating. The narration is quite good and matches the nature of this book well. I did find the conclusion to be a bit fatalistic or even apathetic, Murray does discuss some solutions/approaches to this crisis but the final chapter could have been more constructive.

"Multiculturalism" at the expense of open society?

There is a lot of noise about islamization of Europe nowadays, much of it in the form of shrill thinly-veiled xenophobic statements. This book, by contrast, presents a reasoned case for the conclusion that current European immigration practices on immigration and multiculturalism are tremendously problematic and are built on a number of false premises that tend to remain un-examined. The rather mundane, yet powerful, mechanisms behind the creeping dissolution of the cultures that used to be the bedrock of Western civilization are critically reviewed in this thought provoking book. Rational thinkers without a specific political agenda tend to stay away from critical examination of these issues and thereby cede the ground to populists of all kind. This is very unfortunate, because the open societies that we value are unlikely to survive the dissolution of the cultural foundations that gave rise to such societies in the first place. We cannot afford to dismiss Douglas Murray's analysis of these developments.

Legitimate questions raised

Agree or disagree with the analysis some serious questions are raised. I am first generation immigrant to Sweden (during 90s) that agrees with lots of what’s been said in the book. Author is though wrongly assuming that all immigrants are about bringing their own values here and not integrating - many of “us” see recent development as a threat, we call out Swedes on their nativity, no balls attitude etc.

Impressive work

The evidence of the transformation of Europe is lucid and startling. Douglas Murray bravely points out these facts and their possible consequences. If western civilization and its liberal world order are worth saving, why are we not doing so? How does anyone expect to assimilate large populations of people whose cultural norms and values are so different from those of European populations?

Urgent & Punnishingly Depressing

One of the most dire, grim, yet essential books facing up to the Immigration crisis in Europe. Best read it before the regressive left of the EU ordain it hate speech and start burning it in pyres. Optimistically, some countries such have Italy ave made strong, significant fixes to address the issues at hand. Hopefully more will follow soon.

Vital to the future of Europe

I do not know what to say... I cannot believe the state western Europe is in. I just hope there are still some Europeans left who value Voltaire and Gibbon, Mozart and Paganini, Virgil and Seneca, Aristotle and Epicurus, etc., and a free and secular society.
