Resumen del Editor

"Move over Slenderman, there's a whole new reason to be afraid of the dark!"

There are some places that lie where the barrier between worlds is thin and growing thinner. These corridors are as old as the Earth itself, hidden in dark and forgotten places, waiting to be found. There is a being who stalks these places and travels between those worlds. He was given the name Mr. Shift by generations of children and madmen.

Just as Hickory Grimble hits rock bottom, he inherits his grandparents’ farm and believes his luck is changing. He soon finds he inherited more than money and land. Haunted by his own inner demons, now he has new problems. He begins to see strange creatures on the dark, sprawling acreage, animals that have no business living in middle Tennessee. He also discovers a decrepit, abandoned house in the forest that never seems to be in the same place twice.

Balanced on a razor's edge between, addiction and fate, Hick is now face to face with an ancient evil that has returned once more to claim more of the town's children.

wowsers

the reading was not right for this story. tje inflection on the words in the sentences sounded like something from the old little black and white rascal, or a vaude ville act. good story. Bad narration.

Pretty good

Overall it’s pretty good and has an interesting storyline which is what made me get it. There is a part near the end that seemed kinda lame. The narrator was alright/bearable but I wish he’d slow down. He’s going so fast that sometimes different characters’ lines are blurred together and a bit hard to follow. Overall still worth the read.

This one knows how to SHIFT into high gear...

The Southern House by Mark Deloy is a hot little pot-boiler that turns into a delightful, frantic blood-bath by the end with a very unique villain and a healthy--and much welcomed--splash of science fiction.

Hickory Grimble inherits his grandparent's place after his grandmother passes away, and right away starts to realize there are some things in the vast woods on his sprawling estate which are just not quite right. Strange animals, similar to things he knows, but also unlike anything he's ever seen, are moving through the forest. He's fighting an addiction to pills, and at first attributes some of the odd things he sees to that. But when he finds a strange old house in the middle of the woods, not once, but TWICE (and not in the same place!), he finally has to admit something isn't right.

What follows is a story of friendship, loss, betrayal, and redemption that shines brightly in a glow of liquid crimson. The story never lags, and never lets up either. It keeps coming on at you, building and ratcheting up the tension like a chain until we go into new and fantastic worlds where things we could never imagine lurk...and sometimes spill over into our world.

This is a terrific novel, filled with likable characters and a fine writing style sure to rocket Mr. Deloy up to the top of all the charts. Get your hands on it, and enjoy while you SHIFT in your seat.

The narrator does a fine job.
