Resumen del Editor

Book Two of the Witching Savannah series

Graceful trees and historic buildings fill Savannah, Georgia, but beneath the city’s Southern splendor, its supernatural roots run deep. The members of local witch families grace the society pages…when they’re not secretly protecting their magical work from dark forces.

Savannah resident Mercy Taylor may now be in control of the South’s most powerful family of witches, but she’s struggling to master her newfound magic. Pregnant with her first child and still reeling from a heartbreaking betrayal, she just wants to be able to use her supernatural abilities without accidentally destroying dishes or blasting the doors off buildings.

But when Mercy’s long-presumed-dead mother suddenly returns, begging Mercy to keep her presence under wraps, the witch wonders how many secrets her family is hiding…and who she can really trust. And when the danger around her intensifies to deadly levels, Mercy knows she must discover the truth behind her family’s magic - before it destroys her.

The second book in J.D. Horn’s Witching Savannah series, The Source casts a thrilling spell.

Unique read, but a little convoluted

What did you love best about The Source?

The narration is great, each character is very distinctly portrayed, and she tells the story with gusto.

Would you be willing to try another book from J. D. Horn? Why or why not?

Yes - I want to finish out the series, but I feel I would have to be in the right mood to try another. These books are a little bit dark and complicated for my tastes.f

Have you listened to any of Shannon McManus’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Only the first in this series (The Line). They were both very good.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

There was certainly a lot of action and mystery, and that made me want to figure it out, but at times it seems that Horn changes things just for the sake of throwing a wrench in, so some new twists actually frustrated me and made me want to listen less.

Earned all of em...:

Performance & storyline was excellent!! I've listened to a lot of audio books & Stephanie as the only performer was seamless, sounded like you were listening to multiple performers throughout the book!!

A great second book

I am not sure if this is a trilogy or a series but if it is a trilogy this is a fantastic second book, as good or better than the first. some questions answered many more to be answered. well developed characters and a really good story well told. the narrator just disappears leaving only the characters. such a joy to listen to that I am doing all three books back to back. I don't want it to end.

Not as good as the first

While I didn't like this one as well as the first, it was still better than most. The story gets a bit more wild and weird and the characters were a bit too much in this one. The performance was as with the first book outstanding! I could listen to Shannon reading a menu.

If you liked A Discovery of Witches, you'll LOVE this series!

I love this series. It is Deborah Harkness' "A Discovery of Witches" mixed with a little Ann Rice all rolled into one. The narration is superb! I cannot wait for the next book in the series. Read this book!

I am looking forward to the next installment...

I really enjoyed this series. It was refreshing and smart. I got quite a few chuckles, and parts felt all too human. Although this series is essentially about a witch, I loved the southern charm of the characters. There is a lot of atmosphere and detail in these books which gives you a picture in your mind of the story setting. I thought the family dynamics were very well written and thought out. My favorite character was Geelo, but I do have hopes for the Gollum too.

Too many convoluted plotlines

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not particularly. I loved the first book. As a former resident of Savannah, GA, hearing about the places I used to frequent (and the pub I used to work in- pretty sure it has to be the inspiration behind the one in the book) was very exciting. I loved listening to a story that seemed to evoke the feelings I had while living there and bring to life the innate magic that is daily life in Savannah. The second installment didn't possess that same sort of magic for me though. Too many plotlines emerged and as a result, the story felt chaotic and I didn't have much emotional connection with the characters anymore. Their emotional responses made sense, but seemed forced.

Would you be willing to try another book from J. D. Horn? Why or why not?

I will probably give the next book in the series a go, just because I want it to get back on track and feel loyal to it because of my Savannah connection, but I am not expecting it to be anything riveting.
