Resumen del Editor

In a culture in which science is believed to hold the answers to every question, spiritual realities like the soul are often ignored or ridiculed. We are told that neuroscience holds the key to explaining every aspect of human behavior. Yet Christian philosopher J. P. Moreland argues that scripture, sound philosophical reasoning, and everyday experience all point to the reality of an immaterial soul. Countering the arguments of both naturalists and Christian scholars who embrace a material-only view of humanity, Moreland demonstrates why it is both biblical and reasonable to believe humans are essentially spiritual beings. He also describes the various components of the soul and how Christians can nurture their souls as disciples of Christ. Moreland shows that neuroscience and the soul are not competing explanations of human activity, but that both coexist and influence one another.

Very Good

A philosophical approach to determining the existence of the soul that is, nevertheless, an important subject for those who believe or for those open to the possibility.

Recommend

The work is thorough and thoughtful. Moreland is a top-drawer thinker and sound philosopher. The Soul explores many theologically and philosophically important questions. It is well narrated as well.

really detailed book

I found this book really challenging and interesting to listen to it is worth listening to again. But it reinforces our belief that we are not just a body and there's nothing left to us after we're gone

Needed the truth for Phil. Prof.

I'm taking a class at uofa called mind matter and God. almost finished and was told I can pick my term paper topic. there was no rebuttal against Derek Parfit's disregard of dualism and i wasn't sure if anyone had ever explained why christians are dualists. Reading this book made it evident to me how elaborately designed this class was with the goal of decimating Christianity. this book addressed personal identity, which the class declared was "not what matters", and several other ideas that build on one another to the end of pure automaton theory, as my Abnormal Psychology prof. puts it...I'm grateful for an opportunity to reinforce my "knowledge" :)
