Resumen del Editor

It is 1911, and Jean is about to join the mass strike at the Singer factory. For her, nothing will be the same again.

Decades later, Connie sews coded moments of her life into a notebook, as her mother did before her. More than 100 years after his grandmother's sewing machine was made, Fred unpicks the secrets of four generations, one stitch at a time.

Just average

It was an ok storyline. A lot of time periods to keep track of. Not as good as I’d hoped. The narrator did a good job though.

Loved the story

As a lover of Singer Sewing Machines ands studier of it’s history I really enjoyed this book. The reader had a good accent and read it well, I just don’t like to hear women fake the men’s voices or men fake women’s voices. It’s just not realistic. It can be comical or annoying and detract from the storys

Terrific story

A terrific story that takes you through significant historical events during the 1900's that connect the dots to unanswered questions.

Amazing.

As an avid quilter, listening to the story of this cute little singer sewing machine, was simply delightful. I didn't even know Singer was in Scotland. The back story, history and jumping back and forth in time was well written and easy to follow.
Thank you for a delightful listen!

An ordinary sewing machine bobbin...

An ordinary sewing machine bobbin that connects people & events beginning in 1911. It all started with the passion of workers & continues with the passion of families.

I wanted to like it, but . . .

Scotland, Singer sewing machines, one hundred years of history - this book hit all the right notes and I was looking forward to listening. However, the singsong narration and so-so writing made me quit before I could figure out how all the disparate characters and time periods wove together.

brilliant reader! compelling, wonderful detail

Story moves slowly but the detail is wonderful and the reader is fantastic. Characters from different times who all connect in the end is magical

I never would of thought...

This book explained a lot of what is in my mind and heart when I think of a sewing machine. The relationship I built with sewing and my mother making my cloths meant so much to me. It took this book for me to remember that. The steike of 1911 at the Singer meant a lot to all of us in this industrialized world. Thanks for putting it all into words and a great story with a few twists, turns and creative prose.
Our story with small meaning machines has rarely been so well told.
