Wait for it...

I have loved each of the books in this series about Isabel Dalhousie. And, this one was no different, except for one caveat...there were no pauses between the last sentence of each chapter and the subsequent announcement of the next chapter. No pause whatsoever. It gave a feeling of one long run on sentence, from "Chapter One" to "The End". Distracting. It's wasn't the narrator's fault. It was the director's fault, I suppose. However, I am buying the next installment as soon as this review is complete. Alexander McCall Smith never disappoints.

I am utterly in love!

The characters are filled with a dynamic simplicity that makes the reader(listener) relate to their complex situations. The thought process and moral contemplation of Isabel is simply brilliant! Alexander Smith has given her a dialogue full of charm and wit that embraces the true nature only a Scot could possess. Davina Porter...AMAZING...as always! I cannot wait to dive into book 4.

This version skipped parts. Disappointing. The story is great, as usual, but this recording lacks.

May December Romance - why not?

l thoroughly enjoyed the story, but it was disconcerting when a new chapter began so abruptly. I feel a few seconds between the end of one chapter and the beginning of another would have made listening much more enjoyable.

Great story

Great recording and great story! Highly recommend if you want to escape into Scotland fiction.

Another winner

This is the second Alexander McCall Smith series I am hooked on now. What started as a gamble with the first dectective agency has now grown into a full blown following!
I have enjoyed this title in the series best so far with Isabell in and out of scrapes throughout the story - the shocking revelation at the end of the book did it for me!

Lovely story, lovely narrator

A nice quiet story for a nice lovely day. This is one of the series that I find myself returning to again and again

I love Davina Porter

I believe that Davina could read the encyclopedia and keep me interested. And Alexander McCall Smith can be relied upon to spin a heartwarming yet reasonably realistic yarn. Very pleasant all around.

Charming, but the ending is trite

The characters are well thought out, relatable, and real. The plot is charming and compelling. The ending, however, is quite trite—a cop out.

A surprising turn of events

It was great to have another book with my new favorite character, Isabel. The story went in a direction I wasn’t expecting, and ended with a surprise I wasn’t expecting, although others might have. Looking forward to starting the next book.
