Resumen del Editor

New York Times best-selling author Alexander McCall Smith crafts the sixth entertaining novel starring the ever ethical Isabel Dalhousie.

When Isabel bumps into Minty Auchterlonie for the first time in years, she is skeptical (again) of Minty's integrity. But Minty mentions the bank where she works is having internal troubles, and Isabel must determine, once and for all, if Minty can be trusted.

Woman of mystery: listen to more in the Isabel Dalhousie series.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"The literary equivalent of herbal tea and a cozy fire . . . Invite[s] readers into a world of kindness, gentility, and creature comforts. McCall Smith's Scotland [is] well worth future visits." ( The New York Times)
"Alexander McCall Smith's assessments of fellow humans are piercing and profound. [His] depictions of Edinburgh are vivid and seamless . . . His fans are sure to embrace these moral peregrinations among the plaid." ( San Francisco Chronicle)

Isabelle Strikes a Beautiful Chord

I love the Dalhousie series. I do wish however that someone had been given their just desserts.

Time to move on

As a great fan of Smith I am unhappy to report that Elizabeth is getting used up. If another of these is in the works I hope there is a little more substance to it.

My favorite living polymath is added again…

I love the way Alexander McCall Smith writes a fairly seemingly simplistic novel chock-full with deep observations of life and infused with morality.
This was my favorite in the series, so far.
I was especially taken with the fact that in 2008 he predicted exactly what would happen right now with the Covid pandemic. Namely, that overpopulation, world travel and climate change would all conspire to produce novel viruses and worldwide illness.
The bottom line is this: I love reading anything by someone with a heart and a brain.
Of course, it helps that he has such a stupendous vocabulary and frame of reference.

Each one in the series is more satisfying.

This was totally satisfying. Well written and well read. These books are like sharing time with good friends. Looking forward to the next in the series.

slow moving but enjoyed development

The main character Isabel always trusts people and will try to help when asked. But when an acquaintance asks a favor, it turns out she's not telling the truth and is taking advantage. I enjoyed the realizations the main character made as she did her best to help in various situations. This book is slow moving with a lot of minutely rendered dialog and gives the detailed thought process of the main character. Some might not like it as an audio book. If you like a lot of action, pick something different.

The Lost Art of Gratitude

Davina Porter makes this series. Her slight Scots accent is perfect. Enjoy the wandering of philosophical thought along with the plot of the story. You have to be in the mood for this series. But it always leaves you with some issue to chew on for a while. I know some people do not care for this type of book but enjoy it. I also enjoy philosophy.
