Resumen del Editor

They promised purification. They delivered poison. One that hijacks the mind. A curse that will change humanity forever.

Behind the protective walls of the Colony...

Layla grows restless. The Colony is filled with secrets, and James keeps her in the dark. So, when a woman from her youth opens a crack into her past, Layla discovers everything she believed about the Colony has been a lie - even the baby she carries.

Burdened with an unnerving pregnancy and tormented by terrifying hallucinations and blackouts, she sets out to uncover the unspeakable truths inside the Colony’s walls.

Outside, in the poisoned world...

The virus has killed millions and devastated the economy, but investigative reporter Nick Slater is determined to find and expose the illegal biohacking ring that’s snatching young people from the impoverished streets.

When he’s framed for arson and forced into hiding, his only chance of getting the story is to join the unsuspecting victims herded onto buses and swept off into the night.

As Nick risks his life barreling toward the truth and Layla struggles to constrain the invasive life growing inside her...

A new, evolved breed of humans is about to be unveiled.

Fantastic followup to "The Pain Colony"

I do suggest reading book 1 first because it's a perfect segue into this book.
This is such a well-written story that takes place a few years after book 1, following two timelines and unravelling the truth behind a strange pandemic in a way that's never been done before.
The narrator is wonderful. I would definitely choose books by both narrator and author again.
I requested to review this audiobook and provide an honest review in exchange.

Excellent

I loved how the story continued. I would have like for there to be more about the old people with the babies.
Layla’s reveal was a bit of an ah-ha moment where you have this idea of it but you just aren’t sure. I hate that she stayed with the one person who lied to her and used her.
It’s a great story and one I’ll probably remember & recommend for years to come.
Narration by Noah and Erin was outstanding.

Medical Thriller with Cults & Gene-Editing & More

What I liked?
After The Pain Colony (I reviewed this back in April of 2020) I was captivated and rather impatient waiting for the second book in this series, The Rage Colony. And once I got my hands on the audiobook, I was not disappointed. The story picks up with Allison Stephens (now going by the name of Layla) who is well within the colony that preaches the mantra that "with pain comes peace."

In this story, she explores a little more of that pain and doubts that there's any attached peace. This story doesn't go into the life of Allison Stephens prior to joining the colony very much, as the first one did. Instead, you see her previous "Allison" personality start to come out as she starts to question the colony, what it stands for, what's her true place, and what it might be hiding.

I liked that the author featured this ambivalence in her.

What I didn't like?

Not a dislike of the book, but I truly couldn't stand James. After everything, he turns out to be no better and possibly the worst of offenders in Allison's life.

Overall:

If you enjoy the genre of medical thrillers with that of cults and gene-editing, I think you'll like this. I gave this 4 stars.

Loved it

As good as the first book! This book will take you into the world where man tries to create the perfect human, at all costs. They create the perfect killer who kills without remorse and without hesitation. Except for Leyla, unable to kill James, her husband, she fights the unnatural urge to kill him. Ultimately becoming the first to take an experimental drug that is supposed to take away the murderous urges.
This book contains disturbing content involving infants and use of stem cells.

Both narrator's do a fantastic job again bringing life to an audible so you can experience a book in ways you can't by reading it yourself.

Took a Fantastic Turn!

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I love when you think the second book in a series is going to keep going in the same direction as the first, and the author pulls a fast one on you and swivels in another direction. I thoroughly enjoyed The Pain Colony and wondered what else Hunt had up their sleeve. The Rage Colony did not disappoint. A must read!

Great Follow up story

I have been waiting for this book since I finished Pain colony. Just like with the first book there is some unusual science that is just enough inside the realm of possibility to be believable. Sister 'Layla" is aware something suspicious is going on in the colony but blindly trust James and that proves to be a very bad idea. Nick is by far my favorite character! He is unwilling to let the story behind the "virus" stay behind closed doors no matter the cost! I loved the back and forth between present day virus survivors and the beginning of the virus inside the colony. It gives you background while still continuing the story. This was a fantastic book and I look forward to the next one by Ms. Hunt. I received this book for free for an honest review.

The Rage Colony

The Rage Colony was a great continuation of the story started in The Pain Colony. Though I didn't think it was as good, I liked almost everything in here. Without giving anything away, I didn't mind the back and forth and I did not have a problem with the layout of the plot. The characters were less polarizing in this novel and there were some things in there (such as the ending) that I felt were not nearly as good as the first book. It was a fun story about a pretty terrible (perhaps alternate?) future. I listened to these books back-to-back so I knew what to expect going in because everything was still fresh. Even so, I found myself drawn into the story without even expecting the twists. I was just enjoying a good tale. I am very glad I was given the opportunity to enjoy these books.

I was given a copy of this book on request for my unbiased opinion.

Unexpected

I really enjoyed the first book in the series so I was excited to get a chance to listen to this one. However I have to admit I did not expect the story to go where it went in this book. And with the year we had in 2020 it resonated very strongly. I'm a little afraid to find out where this story will take us the next book. Highly recommended.

This story is 100% all the rage - get it?? :)

*This book was given to me by the author at my request, and I provided this voluntary, unbiased review.*

4.5/5

Following up from how much I liked The Pain Colony, I was thrilled to dive right into this book. Right away, I could see that the author was going into a new direction - something linear into the sci-fi sphere that totally works for this. I don't want to give away any spoilers by explaining anything in this review, other than it explores some of the science in "The Colony," plus we get a peek behind the curtain if you will. With the addition of the perspective of a new addition to The Colony, we get a rounded out story that does not disappoint. I would highly recommend this book, and also very much recommend anyone go back and read The Pain Colony as well. Excellent work by Hunt.

Interesting perspective

Layla is impregnated with a foetus promised to be the future of survival for humankind. Nick is a cop searching for Layla in a world where a virus has killed millions. The story follows them both until they collide for the climax.

This was an interesting story, particularly given the times we are currently living in. It really makes you wonder what’s happening behind those closed doors in all the laboratories. I really liked listening to it from different perspectives and timeframes, and I thoroughly enjoyed the performance, it was both entertaining and fitting.

Note: this book was given to me for free at my request and I have left this objective review voluntarily.
