One of the best-known collections of W. B. Yeats' prose, The Celtic Twilight explores the old connection between the Irish people and the magical world of fairies. Yeats, by traveling the land in the early 20th century and talking to the common people about their experiences with the creatures, yielded a colorful overview of Celtic fairy folklore.

From the perspective of an unbeliever, Fear and Trembling explores the paradox of faith, the nature of Christianity, and the complexity of human emotion. Kierkegaard examines the biblical story of Abraham, who was instructed to sacrifice his son Isaac, and forces us to consider Abraham's state of mind. What drove Abraham, and what made him carry out such an absurd and extreme request from God? Kierkegaard argues that Abraham's agreement to sacrifice Isaac, and his suspension of reason, elevated him to the highest level of faith.

In the beginning was the loan, and the loan carried interest. For at least five millennia people have been borrowing and lending at interest. Yet as capitalism became established from the late Middle Ages onwards, denunciations of interest were tempered because interest was a necessary reward for lenders to part with their capital. And interest performs many other vital functions: it encourages people to save; enables them to place a value on precious assets, such as houses and all manner of financial securities; and allows us to price risk.

Here is one of the best historical novels ever written. Lame, stammering Claudius, once a major embarrassment to the imperial family and now emperor of Rome, writes an eyewitness account of the reign of the first four Caesars: the noble Augustus and his cunning wife, Livia; the reptilian Tiberius; the monstrous Caligula; and finally old Claudius himself. Filled with poisonings, betrayal, and shocking excesses, I Claudius is history that rivals the most exciting contemporary fiction.

One of Nietzsche’s earliest works, The Birth of Tragedy (1872) is a remarkable source of inspiration. It is here that the philosopher expresses his frustration with the contemporary world and urges man to embrace Dionysian energy once more. He refutes European culture since the time of Socrates, arguing that it is one-sidedly Apollonian and prevents man from living in optimistic harmony with the sufferings of life.

Historia
In 1855, Walt Whitman published, at his own expense, the first edition of Leaves of Grass, a visionary volume of 12 poems. Showing the influence of a uniquely American form of mysticism known as Transcendentalism, the writing is distinguished by an explosively innovative free-verse style and previously unmentionable subject matter. Exalting nature, celebrating the human body, and praising the senses and sexual love, this monumental work, now a classic of American poetry, was condemned as immoral upon publication.

Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey are unquestionably two of the greatest epic masterpieces in Western literature. Though more than 2,700 years old, their stories of brave heroics, capricious gods, and towering human emotions are vividly timeless. The Iliad can justly be called the world’s greatest war epic. The terrible and long-drawn-out siege of Troy remains one of the classic campaigns. The Odyssey chronicles the many trials and adventures Odysseus must pass through on his long journey home from the Trojan wars to his beloved wife.

Resumen del Editor
William Butler Yeats's early poetry is suffused with the radiant lyricism of Irish folklore and myth; the yearning romance and distinctly Irish voice of these first works of the Nobel laureate have inspired scores of poets. This splendid selection offers a distinctive sampling of the Yeatsian voice.
Among the many famed works included are "The Stolen Child","The Everlasting Voices", "Reconciliation", and "The Song of the Wandering Aengus". Each of these poems is filled with the sparkling magic and mysticism Yeats absorbed as a boy in Ireland. This sweetness is juxtaposed against an anguished realism grounded in the master poet's nationalist and political sympathies.

Historia
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

Historia
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Emma and Ariella, neighbours in one of Sydney’s most exclusive suburbs, appear to have it all—perfect homes, perfect husbands, perfect lives. But they both know dark secrets lurk beneath the surface and shallow waters can’t hide Ariella’s. Now she has been found murdered. Her daughter filmed the killing. Not knowing what she’s filmed, Emma’s daughter Kiki innocently uploads footage of Ariella’s brutal death. Emma fears the worst—the killer will know what she and Kiki have seen. Their safe suburban lives no longer exist.

Outstanding compilation of Yeats's Short Poems
I don't understand the criticisms by some other reviewers of this album's audio quality. Might they be referring to an earlier release of this album (which has been offered in several formats by a few vendors over the years)? The quality is absolutely outstanding, and the readings by Stephanie Beacham, Colm Meaney, Julian Sands, David Warner, Gabriel Byrne, Roger Rees, Minnie Driver, and Samantha Eggar are as fine as you could ever want.
There are 88 "tracks" on this album. Unfortunately Audible's space limitations preclude me from providing here a Table of Contents. What I will say is that titles of poems are introduced, but not who's narrating what: a typical (and frustrating) lapse in documentation by Audible.
Any Yeats lover should buy this new release, as roughly a quarter of the poems are not present on the 4 other Audible.com Yeats compilations.

Wonderful readings spoiled by music
Absolutely beautiful readings, some of the best I’ve heard. Unfortunately, they are overlaid with background music, which is distracting as such and poorly chosen to boot.

Wondrously good!
I can't fathom the low ratings on this audio. The readers are some of the most compellingly good voices/readers I've ever heard. I could listen to these people read the phone book! I really enjoy the selections in this collection also. I'm actually not really a fan of poetry usually. What little poetry I have enjoyed has almost always been Emily Dickinson, but I've come to love Yeats solely based on my experience with this audio performance. Could the audio be remastered and cleaned up? Yes. It's definitely not crystal clear and artifact free, but it's not so bad as to be utterly distracting. In fact, I find this enjoyable enough to fall asleep to which, considering I'm a hardcore insomniac averaging 2-3 hours of sleep a night, is a huge endorsement.

Such an abomination that I had to write about it
What disappointed you about The Poetry of William Butler Yeats?
Nothing disappoints me about the poetry of Yeats, thank you. Nothing disappoints me about Colm Meany or Gabriel Byrne either. Some of the other actors are a bit tiresome but that is not where the problem lies.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Poetry of William Butler Yeats?
This is a pastiche of three or four recordings of various production qualities. The volume is low, titles are sometimes cut off.
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
But the real problem is that the poetry and the reading are not so much undercut but sabotaged by the whiny music playing throughout the entire reading.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Poetry of William Butler Yeats?
This makes the poems harder to hear and it makes it very hard to concentrate on the actors' voices.
Any additional comments?
But worst of all, it makes the bright poems into part of some kind of sentimental soundtrack to an Irish movie written by someone other than the Irish. It ruins the Yeats, it ruins the good performances.

Frustrating
The sound quality of this recording is so bad that unless you know the poem by heart or are reading along from another source it's hard to tell what's being said. I also was not impressed with the readers chosen to present these poems. Skip this one and borrow a book from your public library

Awful background music
Beware the insipid background music! It is not on the listening sample. The readings are fine.
