Resumen del Editor

Sometimes you look in the mirror...sometimes it looks back.

Those who belong to the secret society called The Oversight know many things. They know cold iron will hold back the beasts in the darkness. They know it is dangerous to stand between two mirrors. And they know that despite their dwindling numbers, it remains their duty to protect humanity from the predations of the supernatural. And vice versa.

But two of the society's strongest members, Mr. Sharp and Sara Falk, are trapped in the world between the mirrors, looking for each other, searching for a way back home. What they discover there will have ominous consequences both for The Oversight and the world it protects - effects that will make them question everything they thought they knew.

The dark waters rise. The candle is guttering. But the light still remains. For now....

Reseñas de la Crítica

" The Oversight is - and let's be clear here - something very special.... It's oh so moreish a morsel. I'd read a prequel this evening, a sequel as soon as." (Tor.com)
"Exciting, exhilarating, scary and moving in equal measure, The Oversight is a teeming world of dark deeds and dark magics, brilliantly realised. This feels like the start of something amazing." (M. R. Carey, author of The Girl with All the Gifts)
"A highly entertaining fantasy that promises a trilogy worth sinking your teeth into." ( SciFiNow)
"A dark and glinting book...told in a kind of compelling and hypnotic poesie that I just lapped up.... I'll certainly be reading the next one." (Cory Doctorow, BoingBoing.net)

different narrator

really enjoyed the 1st book, Simon prebble really captured the character's in the oversight. for some reason, he was not present for the last 2 books. it was difficult to get used to a new narrator after enjoying the 1st book so much. but after a few chapters to get used to the authors voice, I really enjoyed this book as well. And can not wait to start the next.

A Wonderfully Complex Tale Excellently Narrated

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! This is an original, fresh and complex trilogy, so you need to start with the 1st book in the series. In addition to a great nail biting story, the narration is superlatively delivered by the author = Charlie Fletcher! I cannot not wait for the 3rd installment in this series.

What other book might you compare The Paradox to and why?

Philip Pullman: "His "Dark Materials" Trilogy and Garth Nix: "Abhorsen/The Old Kingdom" Trilogy

Have you listened to any of Charlie Fletcher’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This book is the 1st book that Charlie Fletcher has personally narrated; however all of his books have been divine. Including: "Stoneheart" Trilogy narrated by Jim Dale and this new Trilogy "The Oversight".

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I cannot count them all!

He reads just fine. ... solid second installment

Authors are usually not very good readers, in my experience. But Fletcher does a more than adequate job of it. He's not Jim Dale, but I didn't find him hard to listen to at all.

Good sequel, needs professional recording

Story is solid, no complaints. Looking forward to the closer. However, it’d have been better if the original actor Simon Prebble had done the work. Also the production value was pretty bad at the beginning. Flat like it was being spoken thru a tin can. It got better. I can see book 3 doesn’t have Simon. Too bad.

Excellent story telling!

I loved the story which really got you to care about the characters. It was inventive and with believable plot twists and insightful character motivations. I especially liked the author's voice. He did a wonderful job with accents and voicing different characters. He has a very slight lisp, which I liked. One of the best readings I've enjoyed in a while.

Narrator is good, but sound quality is lacking

This is an excellent 2nd book in the series. The narrator—who is also the author—is good, but sound quality is lacking. The poor sound quality made Fletcher often sound like he was speaking from the bottom of a barrel. However, the storyline was so good that I kept with it, despite this important downside.

wow

I was taken aback at first because I was expecting to hear Simon Prebble. It took me a few minutes to adjust to the voice of the author, but after doing so, it was a little hard to not listen. Like one of those books you read till dawn. cant wait to see what happens next.

Oh dear, Mr. Fletcher

Would you try another book from Charlie Fletcher and/or Charlie Fletcher?

No, sadly I fear I would not.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The story was fine, the problem is in the telling of it.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Charlie Fletcher?

Ideally, Simon Prebble, but in a pinch another actual professional would do.

Any additional comments?

Mr. Fletcher, was there honestly no one able to talk you out of this monumentally poor decision? The acting was poor, the characterizations inconsistent, and the production quality laughable (were you recording from within a tin can, perhaps?) - all things which detract from and impede ones enjoyment of the story itself, and could also have easily been avoided. One can only hope that someone comes to their senses and this story is re-recorded - at which point it may be tolerable. At *this* point, sadly, it is not.

Good but... Recording ugh & Reader meh :(

Having listened to books 1 & 2 Back to back I found that I enjoyed Book one more. It was as a completely new world and kept adding new twists. This is definitely a Middle-book in that there were times I found myself wading through to get to the end so that I could find out what really happens in book 3. Don’t get me wrong there is expansion of the story / characters and some new twists as well as character additions, I just felt like I knew it was going to get more murky before anything could resolve. It’s well written and the stories are good it just feels like it’s taking the long way with the story... the actual events in the Paradox were just about adding layers /depth and thus anti-climatic.

As far as the Audible version goes, I was very disappointed to see that the reader was changed from the first book, The Oversight. I had thoroughly enjoyed Simon Prebble as the narrator for The Oversight and was quite disappointed not to return to the same voiced characters. While Mr Fletcher does a decent job, I once again found, somewhat surprisingly, that an author-read book just somehow misses the mark. I also found that there was something odd about the audio quality, especially in the first several chapters where it sounded like listening to an old time radio recording. It was most notable when listening in the car and I'm not sure whether it resolved or I just got used to the sound.
