Resumen del Editor

A spectacular thriller inspired by John Milton's Paradise Lost in which the final chapter of the War in Heaven is about to play out on Earth, with the fate of humanity hanging in the balance.

The Myth: When God cast the archangel Satan into Hell, ending the War in Heaven, peace prevailed on Earth - until the fallen angels took revenge in the Garden of Eden. Ever since, mankind has been in a struggle between good and evil, paradise and apocalypse: the fall of Rome, The Crusades, World Wars, nuclear proliferation, the Middle East Crisis.... The War in Heaven never really ended - it just changed venues. For millennia, God's angels have been fighting Satan's demons on Earth, all in hopes of bringing about Satan's greatest ambition, the Apocalypse.

The Reality: Satan has never been closer to his goal than right now. Agent Bernadette Callahan is a talented investigator at a shadowy government organization known only as Section, on the trail of a serial killer with nearly supernatural abilities. Sebastian "Batty" LaLaurie is a religious historian who knows far too much about the other side - and that hard-earned knowledge is exactly what Callahan needs. This unlikely duo pair up for a race across the globe, decoding clues left in ancient texts from the Bible to Paradise Lost and beyond. In the process they stumble upon a vast conspiracy - one beyond the scope of mankind's darkest imagination.

Now THIS one you will enjoy

I was abit skeptical at first, about actual devils, angels, etc, let alone the battle for humanity. Boy, was I wrong! Browne gets this done, and done well. Sharp, interesting characters, locations and action, running parallel until a cataclysmic conclusion. SB does his usual strong job of bringing the story to life ( although I, along with alot of fellow SB fans, laugh everytime we hear his say " BOOM! " ).

Highly, highly recommended, and certainly looking for more titles of this ilk.

Very moving story

I can't remember the last time a book had me in tears at the end, but this one did. The story was something so different than I could have imagined and was impossible to stop listening to. There are some rough scenes to get through, but by the time you're done listening to the book you understand why they had to be that way. I so hope that this is the beginning of a series. Also, the narration is perfect, but I haven't listen to a book read by Scott Brick that I haven't loved - and sometimes seek out books that he narrates because of his great talent at bringing the stories to life.

Good recomendation

I seldom get recomendation, but I had no clue of a book to pick, after had made some bad choices before. I was wanting a good fiction book, with a nice story, and I am glad to say: I have found it. The book is well written with a nice plot based on MIlton's Paradise Lost (that I had never heard of). It reminds me of Da Vinci Code, but with a much better ending. As I am of São Paulo, Brazil and part of the story is here, I can tell you that the places mentioned in the book really exist. The favela Paraisópolis is a big one, but there are no aluminum houses there. One thing that American authors rarely get right are the Brazilian names. Gabriela and De Souza are ok, but I don't know no Alejandro.

Its a book I highly recomend, and I wish they make a movie out of it!

Breathtaking!

This is one of the most enjoyable thrillers I have listened to in a long time. The scope is breathtaking, the topic all encompassing.

Horror, tears, laughter and the sense of something real moved me throughout the story. It was difficult to grasp how the author did this. Otherwordly for sure.

Scott Brick was spectaculor in his narration, the characters he portrayed came alive under his masterful narration style.

Listen to this, you won't be disappointed. Warning: This should be listened too with both ears and mind without interruptions to feel the full flow and impact of the story.

It was ok.

The story was all right. It felt kind of like a mix of Dan Brown religious mystery, Constantine comic characters and Indiana Jones international adventure. This makes it sound better than it is. It was a bit of this and that but not fully it's own thing. Characters need more development, and plot needed to be more evolved and have more depth. Narrator gave a more dramatic reading than necessary for this tale and characters.
