“A deliciously twisted thriller!” —People

A shocking murder rattles an exclusive London neighborhood in this “fast-paced, decadent skewering of upper middle-class motherhood” (Sarah Bonner, New York Times bestselling author) from the author of Greenwich Park.

Four new mothers…one exclusive playgroup…two murders.

New mom Tash is intrigued when a young nanny is found dead under mysterious circumstances. She has been searching for a story to launch her career as a freelance journalist. But she has also been searching for something else—new friends to help her navigate motherhood.

She sees them at her son’s new playgroup: the other mothers. A group of sleek, sophisticated women who live in a neighborhood of tree-lined avenues and stunning houses. The sort of mothers Tash would like to be. When the mothers welcome her into their circle, she discovers the kind of life she has always dreamt of—their elegant London townhouses a far cry from her cramped basement flat and endless bills. She is quickly swept up into their wealthy world via coffees, cocktails, and playdates.

But when another young woman is found dead, it’s clear there’s much more to the tight-knit community than meets the eye. The more Tash investigates, the more she’s led uncomfortably close to the other mothers. Are these women really her friends? Or is there another, more dangerous reason why she has been so quickly accepted into their exclusive world? Who, exactly, is investigating who?

The author of Greenwich Park returns with this whip-smart novel that “pulls out all the psychological thriller stops—and then some” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review).

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Narrator Louise Brealey skillfully details new developments in Tash’s investigation, while London-based narrator Dakota Blue Richards reveals the truth through flashbacks in the first-person perspective of the first murder victim. The narrators offer seamless performances, using different British accents and slang. The psychological twists and turns will have listeners guessing and gasping simultaneously." (Lacey Webster)
"This audiobook pulls listeners in and keeps them guessing. When Sophie, a young London nanny, is found dead under suspicious circumstances, freelance journalist Tash is intrigued. A new mother, Tash is trying to be accepted by the beautiful, wealthy moms she’s surrounded by. The story is told from two alternating perspectives and presents two timelines, one before Sophie's death and one after. Tash, voiced by Louise Brealey, is depicted as intelligent and inquisitive but desperate to fit in. Richards perfectly matches Sophie's youthful naïveté and recklessness. The closer Tash gets to the truth, the more she is forced to rethink her friendships, her actions, and the consequences for all involved."

jumps back and forth from the characters alot. at times hard to follow but the plot kept me hooked until the last word.

Great Storyline

It was slow moving. Thought would never get to the end. There are no good guys in this story.. everyone(except maybe one husband) is too flawed. Had no one to cheer for.

Felt Like it Took Forever to Get Thru It

I enjoyed the interplay of different styles of motherhood. Lots of twists. Who is good? Who is evil? Will she be able to keep up the front?

Could not stop listening!

Enjoyable listen

This story was a bit difficult to engage with at the beginning. The moms were really mostly unlikeable so it was hard to connect. But as the plot goes on it’s like a car crash you so want to avoid looking at. Sophie is such a genuine person, mom, wife, and trying to make it on her own as a journalist. Without it being contrived the coincidences, communications are brilliantly put in place for both Sophie and the reader. As she clearly has been warned, Sophie sees her world crumbling but still has such a strong conviction for a woman she believes has been murdered. Character development is slow to be fully complete but eventually each character stands out amazingly. The house of cards coming down is exciting, tense, a bit thrilling and nothing expected!

Narration was great with such a large cast. Voices could be differentiated and emotions heard!!

Bravo Outstanding!
