When Macalvie and Jury decide to consult Bronwell, the retired detective tells them that the three murders, although very different in execution, are connected. As the trio sets out to solve this puzzle, Jury and Macalvie hope that this doesn’t turn out to be Brownell’s second-ever miss.

A great mystery with the usual cast

Grimes brings all of the characters back and adds some great new ones. Grimes is still writing hits.

I'm a huge fan of Martha Crimes especially the Richard mysteries. Can't get enough.

Martha Grimes is up there with the best. Far surpasses Agatha Christie. As good as they come.

Too much

Her great characters still here, but the story encompasses so much that I was confused sometimes. I enjoyed it, but less than others in the series.

Maybe I anticipated too much?

Maybe I’ve been anticipating this book for so long I was setting myself up for disappointment.

Steve West’s narration is perfect as I’ve come to expect. I loved the narration and all the characters he does so well. They feel like old friends by now. But the story was very disjointed. I found myself going back several times to see if I’d missed a chapter or two or wondering if the entire book was loaded properly. That’s very unMarthalike.

Whaaaaat?

Agree with other reviewers that this story was very hard to follow. Reached Chapter 13 and realized I was lost, so rewound to the beginning and began again. Then completely lost the thread about mid-book. Finished it anyway just for the pleasure of the conversations, that are for me, the best part of these novels.

Another good Richard Jury mystery.

I love the play between the policeman Jury and his lordly and uber-rich friend Melrose Plant. This time a murder of 3 women over a long period of time. Many suspects as usual. There are also horses involved, a smart mouthed upstart boy and a couple little girls.
