Holy crap, that was awesome

This novel is hard to describe. Part murder mystery, part family tension, part self-aware writer's angst, this was definitely one of the best books I've listened to on Audible.

If only we could revise the endings in our lives..

The premise piqued my interest and Parkhurst's writing held it. Octavia Frost has decided to rewrite the endings of each of her previous novels of loss. She is a woman who is estranged from her rock star son and who has experienced the tragic death of her husband and daughter. The original and revised endings are woven through the book, as Octavia cautiously reconnects with her estranged son who has been accused of murdering his girlfriend. I really enjoyed this original idea about rewriting endings; they are beautifully written in this book. I would definitely read a book of rewritten endings; Ann Patchett, Suzanne Collins, and Jeffrey Eugenides, I'm talking to you!

How Grief Channels Creativity

The writer and protagonist struggles to change a tragic event by rewriting the endings to her books, as if art can remake what actually happened and redeem her part in it. She tries so hard to immerse herself that she becomes a stranger to the only person she loves, her son, Milo. This is a story of how she makes her way back to him by solving the mystery of who murdered his girlfriend. Carolyn Parkhurst weaves a masterful tapestry of plot lines supported by her keen observations of the human condition told with a wry sense of humor.
