Resumen del Editor

Missionary needed this

Serving in another country and listened to this this last week. Really needed this to help me grow in my faith and knowledge of Christ and the real revolution he brought and invites us to be a part of!

Brilliant! Perspective Shifting!

I absolutely loved this book as I hold with my own stongly-held Christian faith, but struggle with historical and cultural grievances.

Greg Boyd hits it on the head

nNot unlike his book, Myth of a Christian Nation, in mMyth of a Christian Religion, Greg Boyd hits the topics hard that need to be hit, especially in our affluent Western culture and United States of America urface-skimming religions. Greg Boyd go goes straight to the source by using scripture and biblical details that are historically accurate and relevant to paint a picture of the true religion of the heart that Christ established.. versus how far down we have slid in 21st century America. Each chapter is timely, to the point and well-done and includes an action guide for small group study that opens up some very useful, relevant, and much-needed conversation among those claiming to be followers of the true gospel of Christ. Although at times it seems that Greg Boyd is a little sketchy on a return of Christ for some fantasy earthly reign and what exactly that looks like...topics that Christ himself speaks about in both Matthew and Luke, the rest of the text seems scripturally sound and backed up buy verses and themes that are common and relevant in the New Testament. I recommend this book for anyone who is trying to break out of the mold of dumbed-down Western Christian thought, and the illness that is killing the once Vivid and alive gospel of Christ in our country.

A great sequel

I’ve just listened a second time to this book and Greg’s previous “ The Myth of a Christian Nation. “. I’ve been concerned about the increasing irrelevance of the church in our country. The truth is we have reduced the gospel to an escape plan that’s contingent on professing the correct beliefs. Subsequently the gospel has effectively become irrelevant to us in our daily lives. What is the gospel? It is the kingdom of God to be lived here and now moment by moment. Read these books and then read them again and allow the Spirit of God to speak words of life.

Great book, but could have left out some things

I wanted to like this book even more. I like Greg Boyd when he talks about open theism and that's why I chose this work. Parts of this book challenged me and were deeply inspirational. Boyd's passion for Christians to carry out the work of Christ in the earth reflects a passion for Christ himself. But at times he strayed into political areas, particularly at the end, that seemed more personally aggrandizing and nevertheless immaterial to the central thesis of the book, as if he threw in some things to fulfill a publisher's demand for a word count. One thing I was ultimately not inspired to do is to read any other of Boyd's works.
