Resumen del Editor

A dark, gritty, pulp-fiction style thriller involving two mythological beings, who sacrifice immortality in a quest to experience human love.

In a supernatural love affair between an alcoholic private eye and a Russian dominatrix, their quest for love upsets the balance of the universe, triggering a civil war between mythological beings. The story juxtaposes the sacred and the profane, intertwining sexuality and violence with Eastern mysticism.

Thrilling romance

The Myth of Love is about two gods who sacrifice their god hood in order to experience love as a human would. With their sacrifice there is also the danger of the world coming to an end if they are not able to find each other in the human realm and fall in love with each other. Most of the other gods are opposed to their mission but there are a few who support it and are willing to break the rules to see their success. No pressure right?? The character that most stood out to me was Tasha, the Russian dominatrix, she does not apologize for any of the choices she has had to make to ensure her survival. Her character seems to be a person that will tell it like it is and would not mince words to spare anyone’s feelings; she will tell you the truth no matter how ugly it is. Due to the hard life she has lived Tasha is unsure how much she believes in true love. I wouldn’t say either one of the two main characters show monumental growth as a person throughout the book but rather they find that they mesh really well and their hard edges fit nicely. I’d recommend this book to anyone who likes gritty romance stories with some action scenes thrown in. There are several mythologies mixed into the story which I really enjoyed.

A story of love, war and peace

Randy Niederman‘s second book, The Myth of Love, has been released just a few days ago as an audiobook and I gave it a try at the author’s request. It sure is a a very strange and different narrative experience, but in a good way, and I can say that I’m glad that I took the time to listen to it.

The story is fast paced and it follows two Gods that decided to give away their immortality in order to become human, but both of them have their own reasons to do so. The interesting part is that neither of them will remember, as humans, who or what they were before, being forced to find one another on Earth in order to complete The Myth…

The book touches on some very rare and interesting subjects, like yoga, meditation, the martial arts, psychology, love, rape, mysticism, the immortality of souls and abuse. It is very clear that Dr. Randy Niederman is a very wise man, and that his life experience helped him write this book.

The audiobook version of The Myth of Love is performed by Patrick Zeller and I can say that he does an excellent job giving a life to all the characters with different voices and accents. He helps the listener to get immersed into this story of love, war and peace, keeping all the protagonists clearly differentiated, and also delivers a top notch performance with the regular narration, keeping it fast and furious. Patrick Zeller has a real talent for voices and for a lot of accents, from African American to East-European, from British to Native American and all in between. His performance was great and immersive and I will gladly listen to more audiobooks narrated by him.

I would recommend The Myth of Love to those who are looking for something new, something different and at the same time entertaining, thought provoking. I am looking forward for Dr. Niederman‘s next novel!
