Belgian detective Hercule Poirot is summoned to France after receiving a distressing letter with a urgent cry for help. Upon his arrival in Merlinville-sur-Mer, the investigator finds the man who penned the letter, the South American millionaire Monsieur Renauld, stabbed to death and his body flung into a freshly dug open grave on the golf course adjoining the property. Meanwhile the millionaire's wife is found bound and gagged in her room. Apparently, it seems that Renauld and his wife were victims of a failed break-in, resulting in Renauld's kidnapping and death.

There's no lack of suspects: his wife, whose dagger served as the weapon; his embittered son, who would have killed for independence; and his mistress, who refused to be ignored - and each felt deserving of the dead man's fortune. The police think they've found the cumprit. But Poirot has his doubts. Why is the dead man wearing an overcoat that is too big for him? And who was the impassioned love-letter in the pocket for? Before Poirot can answer these questions, the case is turned upside down by the discovery of a second, identically murdered corpse....

As a fan of Richard Armitage and facing a 13 hr drive for the holidays, I decided to try out Murder on the Links and I was not disappointed! Armitage is without question the best narrator I’ve ever heard; his ability to come up with distinctly different voices with a variety of accents is just without compare. He really succeeds at filling each character with personality and life - it was almost easy to forget that there was just one narrator and not multiple narrators! I’ve always been a fan of his acting and I’m just delighted in finding his audiobooks! I’m really hopeful he will narrate more Hercule Poirot mysteries because I don’t think anyone else will work for my anymore.

As for the storyline, it is equally amazing (which of course it would be, since it’s Christie). Some of the twists were predictable but the final twist actually legit surprised me! I would definitely recommend this book.

Absolutely Phenomenal

To be fair, I’d buy an audio of Richard Armitage reading a phone book but in this instance, his interpretation of a favourite Agatha Christie Poirot case sums up as an absolute “deadly” combination from opening to end-in the best possible way! The narrator’s nuanced French accents helped me navigate the many characters, his voice for Poirot charmed me immediately-just what I had hoped! Highly recommend, especially since this book is included in membership. I hope to find more Armitage-narrated Christie books soon!

Expert storytelling + narration = perfection

Agatha Christie is of course wonderful.
But Richard Armitage elevates this further still, bringing Hastings's curiosity and Poirot's kindness to life.
This is like a warm fluffy blanket, a cat in your lap, and a cup of coffee in your hand: but audio.

Only 5 because I can't give a 6 stars.

I do like the gentleman that reads this book and the Mystery at Stiles, another Agatha Christie book that is marvelous.

Outstanding!!!

OK so I'm a huge fan of Perot. I've listened to several, most of which were done by Hugh Fraser. So I was actually a little dubious but I was pleasently surprised. All the characters were performed very well. You could discern them clearly.

Pleasently surprised

This, like all of Agatha Christie’s books, is an incredible and expertly written mystery with thrilling and unexpected plot twists around every corner. The narrator is fantastic. What a wonderful production.

AC constructs twist and turns to lead her audience to believe that they are on the verge of solving the murder of Monsieur Renauld. Then she (through Poirot) reminds them of a detail mentioned off-handedly earlier in the story. And voila! The applecart is upset, and the mystery must now be attacked from a different angle. Rinse and repeat! She then manages to make all the pieces fall into place at the very end. And the audience is left exhausted but satisfied.

Loved it. Hercules Poirot always comes through. Poor Hastings always far from getting it.
