Fair

Narration fair at best. Cliche story line. Story not reasonable or credible. Character development was shallow.

Basic Story, Poor Performance

I was surprised for such a basic and often corny dialog from Child. Maybe it was the narrator who always put an overly cheesy voice on in greetings and interacting with others. Nobody is that enthusiastic and perky. Given the overly religious enthusiasm from Connie I hope it does grow in the upcoming works.

Not even close to my originally high expectation

I have a natural intrigue for historical mystery and secret societies, so this book's title grabbed me, as do most of the titles of the books written by this author. I have also read a couple of books by this author and found them to be very exciting, interesting, and intriguing. His first 2 books in the Black Sun series were much better. His book entitled "Ice Station Wolfenstein" was much better. I anticipated so much from this book that was his first book in the Knights Templar series, but I was very disappointed. First and foremost, the narration was really bad. The narrator sounded like a kid in a candy store. The story was being told from the perspective of the protagonist, which is probably good from a writing standpoint, but when the narrator makes him sound like the forever-optimist, it makes this ex-navy seal, ex-secret service agent sound like Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm! And part of that is due to the writing as well. He comes off as being chummy-chummy with the president of the United States, a relationship I doubt even comes close to anything any POTUS has ever had with anyone. Totally unbelievable. I think the thing that bothered me the most about this book is the constant and very obvious current throughout this book of modern "Christian Evangelical ideals" and principles, even to the point of applying them to the historical guardians of the Knights Templar treasure. Then, in the end, the cozy wrap-up where the protagonist acquires the "love of his life", the woman who nursed him back to health after 2 casualties he suffered during his previous lives as a navy seal and as a secret service agent, through a really hokey (meant to be romantic) charade, then, using money that he gained through finding this massive Knights Templar treasure, he buys the house of his dreams and pays the "friends" that he has made during the course of this adventure so they can all retire and build or buy equally impressive houses in the same neighborhood. Just way too sickeningly sweet for me, only amplified by the poor narration.

Conclusion: Don't bother with this one and, if you're like me, any of the other books in his Knights Templar series. Especially if the same narrator is used.

Book may have been good but reader was awful!!

The story line for this book made me very interested and the first few chapters were a little confusing but I just could NOT get past the terrible reader for this book. I'm not sure why such a great author would allow his material to be ruined by this reader.

Disappointing

Lightweight story & very lightweight performance. Give this one, from a great writer, a pass.

A well-written & enjoyable adventure

The Lost Treasure of the Knights Templar (The Last Templars Book 1), my first read from author Preston W. Child, an author I'd wanted to read for some time but never got around to him (so many books, so little time). Well-written and captivating with well-developed main characters reminding one of Christopher Cartwright's & Dan Brown’s writing. Narrator Daniel Gurzynski's narration adds to the book's enjoyment. I was given an Audible copy and am voluntarily reviewing it. I’ll be reading more by this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
