Some dated racial references, probably to be expected from that era. Pacing somewhat inconsistent. Good style.

Interesting, a little dated

The story had a great beginning and ending, but the middle was a slog. The narrator at first felt corny, but his voice was right for the story. He did a good job.

A mixed bag

Chandler writes a first read story with plenty for Philip Marlowe to do. Scott brick does a wonderful job, keeping the characters alive and the rhythm of the story moving along nicely. Highly recommended!

Stellar on all counts

some of the best narration I have heard on an audiobook. it's amazing that one narrator can do a better job than a whole cast

Two for One Credit sale is great when Scott Brick narrates both classics from this author. So glad this story was purchased from the estate and recorded for us listening fans. If you are a movie buff and are familiar with this author, then as a fan you will purchase when this wonderful opportunity comes up again.
I did not read any of this author’s work, i only watched the films that were made so hearing Mr Brick narrate, was a treat and I got to hear rather than watch this good classic.
Were my comments of help?

My favorite Raymond Chandler book. The narration is very good, but Ray Porter is Phillip Marlowe for me.

Wonderful Story

For some reason I thought I had read this years ago. I've a big Chandler fan and love his stories. But I found I had not read it so I got it from Audible and loved it. It's longer and more complex than other Chandler works but no less puzzling and entertaining. The Marlowe in this story is a bit more hard boiled and rough edged but no less introspective and aware. If you've enjoyed other Chandler books, definitely try this one.

One of his best

The musical interludes were great atmospheric additions. Scott Brick is a great reader, and capture the mood perfectly.
