Resumen del Editor

It’s The Holiday on the Champs-Élysées in a great big love letter to Paris, charming old bookstores, and happily-ever-afters!

When bookshop owner Sarah Smith is offered the opportunity for a job exchange with her Parisian friend, Sophie, saying yes is a no-brainer - after all, what kind of romantic would turn down six months in Paris? Sarah is sure she’s in for the experience of a lifetime - days spent surrounded by literature in a gorgeous bookshop, and the chance to watch the snow fall on the Eiffel Tower. Plus, now she can meet up with her journalist boyfriend, Ridge, when his job takes him around the globe.

But her expectations cool faster than her café au lait soon after she lands in the City of Light - she’s a fish out of water in Paris. The customers are rude, her new coworkers suspicious, and her relationship with Ridge has been reduced to a long-distance game of phone tag, leaving Sarah to wonder if he’ll ever put her first over his busy career. As Christmas approaches, Sarah is determined to get the shop - and her life - back in order...and make her dreams of a Parisian happily ever after come true.

loved the book, but

this was a totally enjoyable book except for the fact that the narrator had a very distinctive accent that was quite annoying throughout the audio version of the book.

really wanted to enjoy this light listen but...

the narrator drove me crazy. Every word that ended in "er" she said "a" ! The character was from the south, why not a southern accent if she was going to have an accent or have the full Boston accent? It was like nails on a chalk board every time that "a" showed up.
The boyfriend was annoying and I just wanted him to go away. It would have been a better book if she would have dumped him and found someone better.

The Holiday for book lovers

Unlike The Holiday we Only gets the point of you from Sarah and not from Sophie. But it more than makes up for the trials and triumphs she gets through in the end.

strange accent is distracting

the story is rambling at times. ends well. the most distracting part is the narrator. she is probably English, trying to fake an American accent from a small town but comes away with an accent from the Bronx in NYC. very odd.

*spoilers* Romance novel with very little Romance

*This has spoilers* I got the audiobook version of this on impulse during an Audible sale. The cover says its book 1 of a Paris series, but it turns out that it's also the 2nd book of Sarah and Ridge's romance story.
Slightly confusing, and I missed reading how they got together, as I didn't start with the actual first book.

For the most part, this books stands well on it's own. Sarah is bored with her stagnant life, running her small bookshop while her boyfriend Ridge travels the world as a journalist. She jumps at the chance to swap shops with her friend who lives in Paris, after the friend suffers a heartbreak and has to get away. Sarah, a hopeless romantic, also expects Ridge to meet her in Paris for a few weeks while she is there, for a few weeks of passion in the city of love.

The friend does not disclose nearly enough about her bookshop or how it is run before Sarah arrives, and Sarah struggles with her own very different personality clashing with the employees, as well as radio silence from Ridge. The employees are rude and do not recognize her authority, the shop is far busier than she expects, and Ridge spends one day with her professing undying love, and then abandoning her a day later for a story.

I feel like not enough time is spent with Ridge. At the very end of the book, the author alludes to the fact that they have been emailing off and on, but it's not apparent in the rest of the book. It seems like they are going weeks without any communication, and there is an incident that seemingly puts Ridge's faithfulness into question, but this is never addressed. Ridge is portrayed as a very self absorbed, and a one dimensional character.
Sarah starts off as a terrible manager, but eventually gains a lot of confidence through learning to run the bookshop properly and making friends with the employees, even the more difficult ones. There is quite a bit of character growth with her, however near the end she accepts all of Ridge's flimsy excuses for not being there for her without question, because 'they are in love'.

I felt really frustrated by this ending. It could be because I didnt read their first story and didnt have a lot invested in the character of Ridge - this book did very little to paint him in a good light. I felt the story would have been stronger if she'd realized she had grown as a person and that the fairy tale romance she was desperately seeking was more to do with falling in love with the city and her friends, and dumped his sorry butt.

But it's a romance novel, and they're going to live 'happily ever after', even without him explaining a few more questionable actions.

3/5 stars, will probably not be looking for more of this series.

A good enough story

The story itself, while not great literature, kept me interested enough to see it through. Honestly, it was about was I expected from the description. However, the narration was hard to tolerate. A New England accent using British pronunciation? Plus CeCe’s and Ridge’s “voices” were downright annoying, as were the French accents. Ugh.

charming story

I loved the story very much, but narrator made it almost unbearable. Horrible random american accent.

Everyone's Paris story

Can relate to many aspects of falling for Paris, being true to oneself, and the heartache of love. Only had hard time with readers accent that waiver half way through a sentence.

Sweet Story

I enjoyed this book. But CeCe's grammar, voice and tone was near insulting to me. I live in Georgia and have never met anyone who speaks like that. She sounded centuries off from the rest of the story.
