Resumen del Editor

A new audio edition of the New York Times best-selling sword and sorcery classic, The Legacy is Drizzt at his scimitar-wielding best!

Having found a measure of peace among the dwarves in the reclaimed Mithral Hall, Drizzt begins to know contentment for perhaps the first time in his tumultuous life. But for a dark elf renegade from a city ruled by priestesses of a demon goddess, no peace can long last. It is Lolth herself, the dreaded Queen of the Demonweb Pits, who musters her followers to pour up from the black depths of the Underdark to reclaim for their goddess the one soul that had managed to elude her. The soul of Drizzt Do'Urden.

The Adventure Continues

What did you love best about The Legacy?

The way R. A. Salvatore weaved the story together like a jigsaw puzzle, fitting each piece perfectly as he brought the story together.

I was a little worried at first. I thought maybe Mr. Salvatore had lost his touch, as some of the characters weren't behaving like they normally do. But as I stated, like a jigsaw puzzle, with each piece connecting, things started to make more and more sense as Mr. Salvatore weaved his story together like a masterpiece painting.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Legacy?

Wulfgar, Catie-brie and Bruenor's battle with the yochlol and the drow party from Menzoberranzan. It was a very powerful and emotional moment.

Have you listened to any of Victor Bevine’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to all of Victor Bevine's previous narration of this epic series. And once again, he does an amazing job. I can't imagine anyone else voicing Drizzt Do'Urden but him. I've gotten to the point where I hear his voice while reading the books in the series, when I am not listening to it that is.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it was tough to stop listening. In fact, I had to buy the next book in the series right away after this one.

Any additional comments?

I thought I would have to wait for the next book in the series, like I had to wait for Audible to release this one after the Iced Dale Trilogy, which I admit was a tough wait. But to my surprise, Audible release all four books to this series on the same day. Celebration!!! Good job to Audible.

Love the Book. Narration was excellent.

I've loved every book in this series. The narrator seemed to be a little too excited during some parts, but one would be hard pressed not to be excited when reading a battle described by R A Salvatore.

Great book, good listen.

No surprise that a RA Salvatore book is a good read. Audible has good readers and quality files that make them better than most on YouTube.

A new series in the ongoing saga of Drizzt

This is the first book in the Legacy of the Drow series.

This time Drizzt’s lone remaining sister, Vierna, has been inspired by the spider goddess Loth to try yet again to capture Drizzt and sacrifice him. She has hired Jarlaxle the mercenary who in turn has recruited Drizzt’s most tenacious enemy, Artemis Entreri. Vierna has also induced their brother, Dinen, to join the party, but he is insufficiently enthusiastic to suit her, so she turns him into a half-elf half-spider monstrosity called a Dryder.

Back in Mithrall Hall, Cattie Brie and Wulfgar are trying to plan their wedding. Cattie Brie has begun to notice some disturbing tendencies in Wulfgar, and these are aggravated when Regis the Halfling suddenly appears and tells Wulfgar he saw Drizzt kissing Cattie Brie outside the city. Regis exhibits other unusual behaviors as well. But the most unusual is when the friends go down into the deep tunnels to investigate the failure to return of an exploring party of dwarves and discover that they have been killed by a party of goblins. When the next party fails to return, Regis volunteers to go with Drizzt to look into it. But when they get there this time, it turns out that this time it is Vierna and her party of invading Drow. And Regis is really Artemis Entreri.

A long, long complicated fight ensues. Fully described, in detail. People are killed – mostly Jarlaxle’s mercenaries, of course, but some more important people as well. It looks as if Artemis Entreri dies at the end, but there is just enough uncertainty that I suspect he will be back before long. Vierna and Dinen also appear to be dead, and Drizzt has reason to hope that, with all his relatives finally dead, he will no longer have to fear the Drow trying to get him back or kill him. But there is reason to believe the spider goddess is not done with him yet.

Well written, and well read, as always, by Victor Bevine.

Another trip down memory lane for myself

As I’ve said from the beginning of my reviews of this series by this author I read all of these books when they first came out. Now their in audio format I’m listening to all of them again. There is much I have forgotten and it’s been an enjoyable trip down memory lane!

With Mithral Hall back under the control of the Dwarfs of clan battle hammer the companions of the hall turn to the normal life. The story begins with the sudden return of Regis from the south. He is used to plan the wedding of Wulfgar and Cattie-Bre.Then some dwarf’s come up missing!

Drizzt went looking and found the fingerprints of Menzoberranzan about! This means the Spider Queen is making herself known! Drizzt was the focus of his movement because he was betrayed, but by who?

In this story people are not who they appear to be and people make simple mistakes others take advantage of as they occur! I enjoyed this story and would love to go into incredible detail, but that would ruin it for anyone reading this review!

Here an old enemy comes back and Drizzt is smart about it for part of it. An enemy learns they would rather chose another path which sets the stage for stories down the road. A friend shows true love which is missed and one is not. Other friends come in and stay to help changing the stories to come!

We learn what happened to Assassin Artemis Entreri and why the matron mothers want Mithral Hall along with how they know how to get it. This is the book which sets the stage for so many books to come!

Just As Good 30 Years Later

The books are timeless, and while I'm not 12 years old anymore, it's still an incredible story. Further, although not meant to be political, the clash of culture and ethics, and the navigation of racial prejudices and perceived gender roles, makes the book particularly relevant in today's divisive social climate,

As with all books you read and hear in your head first, I struggled with the voice acting...specifically the names, which don't match the pronunciations in the glossary or that are commonly used / accepted at conventions and other blogs, but if you approach it without any preconceptions of how things should be said, or this is your first exposure to the book and the characters in it, then this shouldn't be a barrier to enjoying such an epic tale.

I also struggled with how slow the speaking was...but when sped up to 1.25x, it reaches a more reasonable cadence. I found the playback could be sped up as much 1.5x without leaning too far toward chipmunk, which is an indication of just how slowly and painstakingly spoken, each word is. But because playback CAN be sped up, this too shouldn't stop someone from purchasing book, and in fact, the whole of the series, which is one of my favorites in the genre.
