Resumen del Editor

Secrets beget lies. Lies beget secrets. Four years after closing the gruesome murder of church Elder Dennis Gregg, Detective Joi Sommers and her partner Russell Wilkerson are summoned to a South Suburban commuter college where the body of a sexy coed is found garroted in the chemistry lab. From their first horrified glimpse at the corpse they recognize they have been tasked with an extraordinary case. The evidentiary trail leads them to similarly murdered victims. Is this a pattern, or a series of random coincidences? Tracking the wanton killer from the South Suburban hamlet to Chicago’s trendy North side, their investigation thickens and threatens to excavate darkly hidden appetites.

Exciting and Suspenseful!!!

This murder mystery had me intrigued, enthralled, and excited that I had to write things down so I didn’t forget to keep up with the clues trying to figure out who this crazy psychotic killer was and this story did not disappoint.

The web of clues, lies and deceit was so well depicted that I felt every scene was meticulously written to keep me mentally engaged purposely while trying to throw me off the murder trail. The characters had personality making them feel believable and that I empathized with their plight, what they were going through and understood what wasn’t being said because everyone had motive and appeared guilty.

I felt like I was in an episode of Law and Order and I was Olivia working with Elliott trying to solve a crime and when I discovered who it was, I was shocked at the revelation of who the murderer was and why they killed. It was ideal and unexpected that you will be shocked as well which is why you should get this book and read it for yourself.

This really was a great read. There are a lot of twists and turns, revelations, scary moments, a lot of necessary healing, love revealed and love lost. Author Susan D. Peters knew the assignment and executed it well. Her degree and level of investigative knowledge was so spot on and impressive as she wove a excellent narrative together telling an exciting story.

Now the narration by Wesleigh Siobhan and Winston James was a perfect combination of intensity and suspense in their articulation and assertion. They gave these words a voice that emphasized those moments that required dramatic emotional effect, impacting how you listen, absorb and receive their words and they did an outstanding job performing this story.

Get the book, you’ll be glad you did.

So many questions

Not going to spoil the ending, But this story could of provided more information. After the detective got the pictures of the murder idk how it all click together and how she sum it all up on assumptions on why she was a target.. Also it was the the year this all happened, alot of the things like iphones ect was not going on in 2008. What I’m stating is technology and other things they mentioned wasn’t as popular, yes I know they exist. The story could of been more if she actually tap into the year the crime presented.
The story was okay
Love the narration!

I don't know about this one....

This is my first book by Ms. Peters and I think it may be my last. When I read the publishers summary and saw Wesleigh's name I was in.. However, there were several things in this book that I just could not get past. I was turned off by the main characters Joi and Russell, in the first chapter and I just couldn't get past it. I don't want to spoil the book, so I'll move on. There were a few things that just didn't add up. Towards the end of the story the writer really seemed to be reaching to make the killers motives seem somewhat logical. It was almost unbelievable. Also, I thought that some of the language in reference to WOC and the LGBTQ+ community was a bit offensive. At one point I actually stopped the book to see the publication date. Many of the words used were just downright disrespectful and antiquated. The word fa***t was used multiple times. Also, they kept referring to WOC as girl. At one point a Trans person was called it. While I'm not a part of the LGBTQ+ community, I believe everyone deserves respect. The narrator's were great. The story was just meh... There were several unanswered questions or maybe I missed the answers, while I was rolling my eyes at the ending. What happened to the ring and the fingers? What was the reason for the killer going so far off the deep end? Was it mental illness or abuse?

Great Mystery - I didn't figure it out

Mysterious. Intriguing. Sexy. From the very beginning, I was hooked. The story moved along at a nice pace to keep the listener interested-- in how the detectives attempted to uncover three murders as well as providing insights into their personal lives. I liked how the author described the Black characters' features -- dreadlocks, brown skin, etc. It was nice to hear descriptions of people who look like me. I also liked the characters Joi and her married detective partner/lover, Russell, who are smart, flawed, and compassionate. Good listen.
