Resumen del Editor

"In a nation of 260 million our healing is actually extremely personal. We must each mature into a deeper understanding of our lives and why we're living them, for such understanding is the womb out of which will come new life for American culture." With the publication of The Healing of America, Marianne Williamson became a powerful voice for social conscience in American society. While citing the virtual abandonment of social justice as a dominant political theme since the 1960s, Williamson notes historian Arthur Schlesinger's contention that Americans express renewed political interest every thirty years. This is a time, according to Williamson, for Americans to once again return to first principles - political and spiritual. In this landmark work, Williamson draws plans for the transformation of American political consciousness and the re-emergence of powerful citizen involvement in a genuine healing of American society. According to Williamson, we need a new paradigm of political understanding, a moral commitment to express it, and a new kind of activism to bring it forth. The Healing of America is a blueprint for all three.

Healthcare in America

What did you love best about The Healing of America?

This book highlights the egregious dysfunction that characterizes the economics of healthcare in the USA as of today. If you are wondering why healthcare is so insanely expensive, this book is a good primer. It discusses the pharmaceutical, medical device and hospital "industries" as they struggle to capture every dollar they are able from the American consumer of healthcare. Medical expenses are the largest single cause of personal bankruptcy in America. These industries will pursue every dollar they are able until the entire system collapses. READ THIS BOOK!!!

Should be required reading in schools.

Deeply insightful and profound. What a different path this world could be on if these principles could be embraced by our elected officials and POTUS.

The Ramblings of a Mad Woman

There isn't so much of a structure to this book, as it is a list of many things the author deems wrong with America. I don't disagree on many of these points, but it feels as if it lacks structure or purpose. It becomes a echo chamber of grievances, without meaningfully contributing to any solution.

The author often boils societal problems down to a lack of spirituality, without delving further, which may not be everyone's fancy.

Do not confuse this book with T.R. Reid's - The Healing of America.
