Jacob Good was a man who could expect to see many ghosts. Angry spirits - and the wraiths of men and women filled with hate for Jacob - paraded their soured souls in front of him, surrounding Jacob with their rage.

After all, Jacob had killed a lot of people.

Now, a frightening, tragic ghost is taunting Jacob as he's about to retire, making his life a nightmare, and demanding that Jacob make sure the last guilty murderer doesn't miss his appointment with Jacob's noose. But who is to be Jacob's final victim? And do they deserve to escape the rope, or not? Will Jacob's last killing be a dreadful mistake?

I really enjoyed this! It is self produced, but don't be put off by that, as the author does a wonderful job and his narration is excellent. The story is scary of the spooky variety, and fun to listen to with the lights off at night. A great change of pace from mainstream horror, in the vein of campfire tales. I highly recommend it!

Spooky Story, Nicely Done

Is it the ultimate guilty conscience or is it the ghosts of too many victims of the hangman's noose? You will have to judge for yourself when you experience the slow torture endured by the about-to-retire hangman in this story.

The style, setting and narrative make it seem like a classic story from decades ago, even though I know it was just written a little while ago. But that's just the writing genius of Graeme Hague -- one one paragraph, he can take you on a journey of a hundred years back in time and convince you that you're listening to Charles Dickens one minute and Edgar Allen Poe the next minute.

Mr. Hague also narrates his own work, something that you don't see (hear) often, but with this author, it works. He has a silky Australian accent that I enjoy listening to. And when an author narrates his own work, you know that the inflection and emphasis is exactly where he wanted it because that is how he heard it in his head when he wrote it. I was offered a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. However, I will be looking for more from this author for sure.

This is a short piece and it was over far too soon, but that just speaks to how quickly I got pulled into the story. But it's silly to complain about the duration of a story, long or short. Ideally, the story is as long as it takes to tell. Wanting more from a story and/or author just tells me that he's good. So give me more, GH!

Classic, eerie story

If you could sum up The Hangman's Ghost in three words, what would they be?

Interesting, good and disappointing.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would’ve changed the ending. The story was pretty good but I was disappointed with the way it ended.

Any additional comments?

I received this book free for my honest opinion.

Not what I was expecting

When your job is an executioner the question of who the criminal blames for the execution might just be the person pulling the lever, even though they are just doing their job. What if the criminal is not guilty, who would they blame?
This is the shortest of all G.M. Hague’s Horror stories. Since this is short it moves along quick but tells a good story. All of his stories are great; but, out of the current 5 stories released this one ranks in the middle with Vol II and IV being my favorites. Looking forward to more.
As with all of his other Horror Stories, Hague does a fantastic job narrating the story and puts you right there in the noose next to Jacob. Still hoping to hear a bird or frog in the background.

Retirement will kill you

The Hangman’s Ghost was pretty good. I enjoyed the journey that the main character, Jacob Goode, went through. Even though the story takes place in the main time of the story, we learn a lot about what he has been through and what the world has been through in the aftermath of WWII. This is the second story by G M Hague that I have read. Very good creepy feel. Enjoy!!!
