Great Story

Great continuation of the Godfather Returns story with compelling character development. Narrator was also very good.

Good but lacking

Meandering throughout. Plot points are introduced, dropped then take forever to return to them. Adequate.

Thouroughly enjoyed!

I am a huge fan of The Godfather, so I enjoyed all the extra stories of the characters lives, fully captivated me! Great narration too!

A decent follow up.

Characters were a decent continuation and reimagining of the events following the previous books as well as first 2 movies.

I am surprised this wasn't a movie. This is one of my favorite books from Mario.

History rewritten

This book could have been amazing. Scott Brick as always was GREAT but this was basically history rewritten with a Godfather slant. A few things were changed but 8nstea dof having fun with it they decided to stick to the "facts"

Rounds out the series and definitely leaves you wanting more.

Winegardner certainly does the whole series service by drawing out these long loved and venerable villains. The first book post Puzo is such an eye opener because Winegadner does such a loving job unpacking all the possibilities posed by the original. This one keeps that love affair with the Lionhearted going, but Michael stays so cold and the arch of the story reaches for some grand historical allusions, when what we really want is to spend time with the family. There's a lot of pain in this one, and I suppose that's a fitting way to round out what was a hay day that brightened meteoric and then faded under its own tarnishing. Ciao Cosa Nostra.

Ok - but not great

As in The Godfather Returns , the story timeline kept bouncing around , although not as much as the second book did .

Fills in the gaps

Ever wonder what happened to Tom Hagen? Or Johnny Fontaine? This and other gaps in the sprawling Godfather narrative are filled. Winegardner really makes an effort to capture Mario Puzo's tone and pacing, so this book fits in quite nicely with the original. So many characters, it's difficult to keep everybody straight. But it's a fun read, and Scott Brick's performance is first-rate.

Why wasn't this third part to the movie trilogy!

When it comes to the movies, the third part of the trilogy, never grabbed my attention like the first two movies did. BUT the third part of this book, is a whole other story completely... Filled with much more action, the book does a great job in following up where the first two left off. Where the movie, is all about finding a successor to the Godfather, the book instead continues right where the other two parts left off and better explain the President's assassination as well as what happens to Tom Hagan, which neither are explained in the movie. The Narrator does a great job and overall, I would highly recommend this third part over the third part of movies! Yet another classic... Can't believe they decided not to use any of this material when making the third part of the movie???
