Acerca de esta escucha
"Whether by design or by chance," Terryl and Fiona Givens write, "we find ourselves in a universe filled with mystery. We encounter appealing arguments for a Divinity that is a childish projection, for prophets as scheming or deluded imposters, and for scripture as so much fabulous fiction. But there is also compelling evidence that a glorious Divinity presides over the cosmos, that His angels are strangers we have entertained unawares, and that His word and will are made manifest through a sacred canon that is never definitively closed.
What we choose to embrace, to be responsive to, is the purest reflection of who we are and what we love. That is why faith, the choice to believe, is in the final analysis, an action that is positively laden with moral significance." As humans, we are, like the poet John Keats, "straining at particles of light in the midst of a great darkness." And yet, the authors describe a version of life's meaning that is reasonable - and radically resonant.
It tells of a God whose heart beats in sympathy with ours, who set His heart upon us before the world was formed, who fashioned the Earth as a place of human ascent, not exile, and who has the desire and the capacity to bring the entire human family home again.

Robert MacFarlane has written that language does not just register experience, it produces it. Our religious language in particular informs and shapes our understanding of God, our sense of self, and the way we make sense of our challenging path back to loving heavenly parents. Unfortunately, to an extent we may not realize, our religious vocabulary has been shaped by prior generations whose creeds, in Joseph Smith's words, have filled the world with confusion. I make all things new, proclaimed the Lord. Regrettably, many are still mired in the past, in ways we have not recognized.

The Restoration began in the spring of 1820, when Joseph Smith saw God the Father and Jesus Christ in a grove of trees in upstate New York. Joseph had questions, and Jesus had answers. That was 200 years ago. As the Restoration enters its third century, the world has new questions. A loving God has answers. In Restoration, scholar and author Patrick Mason reflects on what it means for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to participate in the ongoing Restoration.

Historia
Givens examines the Book of Mormon first and foremost in terms of the claims that its narrators make for its historical genesis, its purpose as a sacred text, and its meaning for an audience which shifts over the course of the history it unfolds. The author traces five governing themes in particular - revelation, Christ, Zion, scripture, and covenant - and analyzes the Book's central doctrines and teachings. Givens also provides samples of a cast of characters that number in the hundreds, and analyzes representative passages.

"I, Nephi, having been born of goodly parents..." So begins the first book in the Book of Mormon. In this brief theological introduction, philosopher and theologian Joseph M. Spencer investigates the central themes and purposes of a book he calls a "theological masterpiece". What was Nephi trying to accomplish with his writings? How can readers/listeners today make better sense of Nephi's words? What can an ancient seer offer readers/listeners in the 21st century? Spencer introduces a Nephi for our moment, a complex prophet with an urgent message for a world in turmoil.

Our unconscious thought patterns determine our relationships, our spiritual life, and our connection to God to a much greater extent than we know. That’s an alarming thought, because the subconscious mind is a mysterious realm that is really difficult to access and influence...right? No. It’s really not! And it’s the most urgent and impactful thing we can do. This book will show you how.

The Bible remains profoundly relevant - both to the great issues of our day and to each individual life. It is the greatest moral guide and source of wisdom ever written.

Historia
On the outside of the Salt Lake Temple is a carving of two people shaking hands, symbolizing the temple as a place where we make sacred covenants with God. But what are those holy promises, and what do they have to do with becoming endowed with spiritual power in our everyday lives? In The Holy Covenants, religion professor Anthony Sweat helps us better understand the major covenants of the temple endowment as a pattern of divine living.

Historia
Adam S. Miller proposes an experiment in Restoration thinking: What if instead of implicitly affirming the traditional logic of original sin, we, as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, emphasized the deeper reality of God's original grace? What if we broke entirely with the belief that suffering can sometimes be deserved and claimed that suffering can never be deserved? In exploring these questions, Miller draws on scriptures and the truths of the Restoration to reframe Christianity's traditional thinking about grace, justice, and sin.

Historia
Compared to the Puritans, Mormons have rarely gotten their due, often treated as fringe cultists or marginalized polygamists unworthy of serious examination. In Kingdom of Nauvoo, Benjamin E. Park excavates the brief, tragic life of a lost Mormon city, demonstrating that the Mormons are essential to understanding American history writ large. Using newly accessible sources, Park re-creates the Mormons' 1839 flight from Missouri to Illinois.

Historia
"I, Nephi, having been born of goodly parents..." So begins the first book in the Book of Mormon. In this brief theological introduction, philosopher and theologian Joseph M. Spencer investigates the central themes and purposes of a book he calls a "theological masterpiece". What was Nephi trying to accomplish with his writings? How can readers/listeners today make better sense of Nephi's words? What can an ancient seer offer readers/listeners in the 21st century? Spencer introduces a Nephi for our moment, a complex prophet with an urgent message for a world in turmoil.

Wonderful narration
Really interesting approach to doctrine. The narrator made it sound like poetry. Rarely do I ever listen to a book twice but I will listen to this one again. Loved it.

Narration
the first time I listen to this book I did not enjoy it. something about the narration bothered me. I listen to it again a couple years later and really enjoyed the message and the narration wasn't as bad as the first time.

Lots of philosophy references. Solid ending.
I was a Philosophy major and was surprised to see this book address the world view and cite to so many of the philosophers I was familiar with.
This book in my opinion is the essence of “come let us reason together.”
I found the beginning slow, but I believe it finishes strong. I may have to read it again though.
Side note: Fiona Givens is one of the most pleasant voices I have ever listened to on Audible. I could listen to her read anything I believe and I’d enjoy it.

Eloquently written, describing our most loving God
This book gives new meaning to the phrase a loving all merciful God. Fiona's voice is heavenly to listen to, and her and her husband's words inspire and captivate.
On a side note, their mastery of the English language allows them to use extensive descriptive language. If you're looking for an easy read, this is probably not what you're looking for. But if you're looking for something to ponder, touch your heart, and help bring you closer to a oving father in heaven, then get this book! Can't wait to read their next book The Crucible of Doubt!

A beautiful book
This beautiful description of a God worth worshiping is deliciously read. I’ve listened twice and am currently on my third listen. It’s so full of nuggets you will need to have a thorough study to get as many nuggets as possible.

Further light and knowledge
Line upon line, precept upon precept. This book enlightened my mind and my soul. Loved it. Have already listened tp many chapters 2 or 3 times. I listen while I walk. If I listen at night, Fiona's soothing voice puts me to sleep in about 2 minutes. I suppose that a good thing for my subconscious. In that case. I 'read' several times over!
