In this intriguing business novel, which illustrates state-of-the-art economic theory, Alex Rogo is a UniCo plant manager whose factory and marriage are failing. To revitalize the plant, he follows piecemeal advice from an elusive former college professor who teaches, for example, that reduction in the efficiency of some plant operations may make the entire operation more productive. Alex's attempts to find the path to profitability and to engage his employees in the struggle involve the listener; and thankfully the authors' economic models, including a game with matchsticks and bowls, are easy to understand. Although some characters are as anonymous as the goods manufactured in the factory, others ring true. In addition, the tender story of Alex and his wife's separation and reconciliation makes a touching contrast to the rest of the book. Recommended for anyone with an interest in the state of the American economy.

The performance of this story was fantastic: background noises, different character voices, etc. I forgot I was listening to a book assigned for work and really enjoyed it.

What did you like best about this story?

The concepts presented in this book are applicable to almost any field, in addition to goals you may have in your personal life. If we focus on outcomes to dictate our processes, we can achieve much more.

Which scene was your favorite?

Probably near the beginning where the main character realizes for the first time that the industry standard way of thinking is not correct. The rest of the book is based on his ability to realize his own capacity for change.

Fantastic for anyone wanting to understand manufacturing

Using fiction to teach theory is a fantastic concept and excellently executed in this audio book. What’s more, the non-fiction chapters at the end add even more context to the theory. Highly recommended for anyone working in manufacturing or selling into manufacturers.

This audiobook is like a radio theater performance. Appropriate background noises, different voices m, etc. it all combines for a thoroughly enjoyable listening experience, while also motivating the listener to think about problem solving. Excellent buy!
