I’m always on the search for British thrillers and this is another reason why. I’ve had luck by searching by narrator and have found new authors and hidden gems (a recommended method). With the gifted and creative skills of Clare Corbett, I knew I had to have it. How does she do it? Every character’s dialect, pitch and vocals are impeccable. My first by Emily Gunnis is most definitely not my last. The conversations and Beautifully told by Corbett, I was audicted from the first. “The Girls Left Behind” is an expertly written and heart-wrenching tale. Gunnis takes us back to the past with devious and unsolved deaths. In addition, she delivers sentimental subplots with nostalgic bliss. Corbett and Gunnis are precisely paired and I look forward to more. Lesson learned: No multitasking here during this complexellent and touching listen. We are treated to turns, twists, zig-zags and more surprises {{{jaw, meet the floor}}}. As I said earlier, “The Girls Left Behind” bring on the waterworks. If one doesn’t shed a tear during this listen, then one has no heart! I’ve listened to 154 titles so far in 2023 and I’ll tell you, this one rises to the top of my vast Audible library. Highly recommended with a 🍒 on the top and a shriek from the rooftop, “Epic, I say. EPIC!”

I wasn’t sure how this was going to be. I usually stick with the same authors and Emily did an amazing job. Multiple points of view spanning multiple generations can be very hard to follow and I usually lose interest but she can really make them all work flawlessly. I loved this book! First thing I thought when I finished “this would be an incredible movie”

Story telling

This book had a meaningful and captivating storyline throughout. Also, the voice actor had great inflection that added to the story.

A truly fantastic listen!!

This book grips you from the beginning and never lets go. Told from several POVs and spanning over several decades, we wonder how the characters will converge…and it is masterfully done. The ending totally caught me by surprise. Definitely a must listen…and re-listen!!!
