"A host of fine characters: the recovering alcoholic priest whose Jesuit logic often yields to his own weaknesses...and an Arapaho professional woman caught between white and Indian worlds." ( Publishers Weekly)

Interesting story, good characters.

I enjoyed listening to Ghost Walker. Rising tension, sudden reverses. A good yarn. Heaven knows I can’t vouch for the accuracy of Coel’s depiction of Native Americans. I think she is about 50 years behind on her description of Jesuits. But, all in all, worth a listen.

Stunning mystery

I read a lot of mysteries and this is among my all-time favorites. Not too horribly violent, but not afraid to shy away from deep, real human issues. Love the world created and window into an Arapaho reservation. Endearing, relatable, characters.

Excellent. Highly recommended.

Narration is terrific. That alone pulls you in deep and completely into the story line. Wow. Love Coel's writing.

Another Great Wind River Reservation Story

In the headline of my review of the first Wind River book, I made a typo (hello, proofreading!) - I meant to say "Escape TO the Wind River Reservation". So, I'm here to make amends and recommend "The Ghost Walker" as well. This is a series that deserves attention. They have an appeal that evokes the great Tony Hillerman's Navajo stories, with their well-drawn characters and love for the bleak landscapes of the reservation.
I think you'll like getting to know the people in these books, and you'll find lots of interesting detail about life on the reservation.

Frozen Corpse, Ghost and Politics on the Res

The second in the Arapaho Indian Mysteries, Father John O’Malley finds a frozen corpse on the reservation. Soon afterward, the body disappears, which makes for much fear and woe on the part of all the Arapaho. Until the body can be laid to rest, his ghost walks the earth, restless and wreaking havoc. And to everyone’s dismay, Father John O’Malley is informed that St. Francis Mission is being sold. Frantic to stop the sale and find out who is behind it, Father John and Vicky Holden, attorney for the tribe begin to investigate both the missing body and the sale of the mission. Rich with the ancient customs of the Arapaho and respect for their beliefs, the Wind River Reservation comes alive. The love between Father John O’Malley and the Arapaho and the protection he affords them in his gentle way is heartwarming. Yet, he is human and flawed, as are we all. Fearing for the future of the mission and where the Catholic church might send him next, Father John continues to search for the missing body. The resolution of the story was something I didn’t expect. Great tale! Definitely going on to the next in the series!
