Rostov, Russia War has broken out. Russia has invaded its neighbor. As the world watches in horror, one assassin enters enemy territory to do what must be done.

Washington DC, USA The US President grapples with one burning question. Is Russia preparing to use tactical nukes?

The Fixer by Saul Herzog is the stunning sixth instalment in the series that has taken the publishing industry, and Hollywood rights departments, by storm. This dazzling tour de force is a full standalone novel. From the mind of one of the most creative and versatile writers working in America today, this book will surely go down as a classic of the spy thriller genre.

If you listen to only one book this year, this is it. Action, adventure, rebellion, provocative foreign agents, characters you can sink your teeth into. If you're looking for a new spy thriller series that will stay with you long after the final tick, look no further.

Recommended for fans of Lee Child's Jack Reacher, Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp, Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne, and Brad Thor's Scot Harvath.

Too much attention spent on the creepy Russian (he’s easy to hate without so much detail) that the idea that Roth would betray his county was not developed enough. Monday morning quarterbacking, sorry. Decided to wishlist the next book to walk away for a minute.

I’ve really enjoyed Saul Herzog’s books in the past, and while The Fixer didn’t quite land as strongly for me, I’d still recommend it for thriller fans.

The pacing felt more methodical than I expected — not slow exactly, but a bit less gripping. Oddly enough, the protagonist is barely involved, and most of the story ends up revolving around Osip Shipenko, the main antagonist. That shift left the book feeling scattered in terms of character focus.

Herzog leans heavier on equipment descriptions here than in his earlier novels, which was interesting, but I missed the kind of psychological depth that usually makes his characters stand out. Nothing really hooked me emotionally, and Osip’s darker traits and personal indulgences sometimes felt more gratuitous than necessary — those sections in particular took me out of the story.

Instead of being a sharp action thriller, The Fixer seemed to move into espionage territory, but it doesn’t quite hit the mark on either front. Still, Herzog’s writing is always clean and professional, and I’d say this book reminded me more of a Brad Thor novel in tone than his earlier work.

Overall, not my favorite from him, but good enough that I’ll keep going with the series.

Good, but not his best.

All Saul’s books are great, but this one is my favorite. I couldn’t stop listening.

Great book

This book was a little boring and to mush was repeated. It may be alright if one is not familure with the preceding chapters, but is still to repiticious. I will look forward to “The Contacts”.
