Desperate to delay an impending attack by the indigenous people of Xidda, Tau and his queen craft a dangerous plan. If Tau succeeds, the queen will have the time she needs to assemble her forces and launch an all-out assault on her own capital city, where her sister is being propped up as the 'true' Queen of the Omehi.

If the city can be taken, if Tsiora can reclaim her throne and reunite her people, then the Omehi might have a chance to survive the coming onslaught.

The book series I needed but did not know. Narration was absolutely perfect. Waiting for book 3. (ONLY COMES JANUARY :').

a perfect follow up, and some of the best logistics in an epic fantasy that I've read recently. I loved the character development and growth

Amazing from start to finish.

This novel is perfectly adapted as an audio book. The world that is being built by author Evan Winter is so rich and complex it can almost be daunting to keep up with the many layers of character, society and lore that he is interweaving. The performance by Prentice Onayemi is masterful in bringing this new world to life. It quickly becomes familiar and the characters feel like old friends. My only disappointment is having to wait for the next book.

World building and performance pays off

The world building is very interesting and fresh take on fantasy world with dragons. What strikes me the most is the change in POV that happens at the greatest victory of the main characters, showing the opposition's view that allows the reader to understand and sympathise with the antagonists as well as question the morality and character of the heroes. I also love that to reflect the matriarchy of the book's society, the author always writes "women, men and children" instead of the common English order of "men, women and children".

The narrators performance is wonderful and compliments the African influences in the language of the story.

Looking forward to book 3

Nuanced and multifaceted look at revenge in a fresh fantasy world.
