Great book-Narrator needs to do her research

I really love Sue Henry books and I think that Lee Adams does a great job at narration. However, I live where this book takes place in Alaska on the Kenai Peninsula in Homer. It grates my nerves to hear the mispronunciation of many different places including Kachemak Bay and Kenai. it seems like common sense to me to perform some due diligence prior to narrating or reading any book for a public audience. I am hoping that future books will have proper pronunciation so that the book can be enjoyed as it should.

Love Sue Henry But

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I was disappointed in this Sue Henry book, but it may be because I really disliked the reader.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I will be listening to Bonnie by Iris Johansen.

How could the performance have been better?

I felt like this was not much of a performance but more like a mother reading aloud to her child. I love Scott Brick and others, so this reader was really a disappointment.

Was The End of the Road worth the listening time?

Since I listen when I'm traveling, the book was still entertaining and if someone is a Maxi and Stretch fan (which I am) it's still worth listening to.

Another enjoyable installment

Any additional comments?

Initially, I was under the assumption that this is the last book in the series because of the title. At this point in time (June, 2017) - it IS the last book, but I'm hoping there will be more. Some of the other reviewers commented negatively about the narrator. My opinion is that she did a fine job. A person who is not familiar with the pronunciation of Alaska's locations would not notice the things that annoyed these folks. As to the story, I enjoyed it almost as much as the other stories in the series (I listened to all of them), but one thing bothered me a bit (causing me to delete one star). Ms. Henry tends to repeat information unnecessarily. How many times do I need to know what they ate for dinner? OK, describe a dinner party, who was there, what she served, etc., but I didn't need to hear it again when Maxie told the story to the police officer!
My summary is that I enjoyed the book and hope there will be more in the series!

Excellent storyteller - great characters

What made the experience of listening to The End of the Road the most enjoyable?

The reader sounds just like Maxie would sound - the detail of food and drink.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Maxie is a strong and capable woman who even though getting on in years has such a good sense of herself.

What does Lee Adams bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Lee Adams is an excellent reader and sounds just like Maxie would sound. Wonderful!!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but its great to listen while doing chores and look forward to the next time I turn it on.

Any additional comments?

Sue Henry is a great author and I would recommend all her books

good book. poor narration

Narrator needed to check pronunciation of Alaskan places. Were cringe worthy to anyone with even a basic knowledge of the state!!

Do your research, narrator.

I bought this book because my parents live in Homer, Alaska and I have spent a lot of time there. I have enjoyed Sue Henry's previous books, but opted for the audiobook this time. The fact that the narrator pronounced Kenai (should be "keen eye") and Kachemak (should be "catch a mack") wrong ruined the book for me. The book is a first person narrative and the two words are integral to life in Homer, so it really felt like the character didn't really live in Homer and was unbelievable. On top of all that, I really didn't like the voice or cadence of the narrator, but that could have been influenced by my frustration at her lack of experience with Alaksa.
