Resumen del Editor

Robert P. Jones, CEO of the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI), challenges us to grasp the profound political and cultural consequences of a new reality - that America is no longer a majority white Christian nation.

For most of our nation's history, white Christian America (WCA) - the cultural and political edifice built primarily by white Protestant Christians - set the tone for our national policy and shaped American ideals. But especially since the 1990s, WCA has steadily lost influence, following declines within both its mainline and evangelical branches. Today America is no longer demographically or culturally a majority white Christian nation.

Drawing on more than four decades of polling data, The End of White Christian America explains and analyzes the waning vitality of WCA. Jones argues that the visceral nature of today's most heated issues - the vociferous arguments around same-sex marriage and religious liberty, the rise of the Tea Party following the election of our first black president, and stark disagreements between black and white Americans over the fairness of the criminal justice system - can only be understood against the backdrop of white Christians' anxieties as America's racial and religious topography shifts around them.

In 2016 and beyond, the descendants of WCA will lack the political power they once had to set the terms of the nation's debate over values and morals and to determine election outcomes. Looking ahead, Jones forecasts the ways that they might adjust to find their place in the new America - and the consequences for us all if they don't.

Dissapointed

First of all, the narrator spoke too quickly for my listening pleasure. I thought it would be more relevant for today's Christian era

Interesting perspective about WCA

He has good statistics and history covered in the book. It is presented through a WCA focus still struggling from a complete appreciation of experiences and truths of others excluded from WCA by its own WCA members.

Largely Accurate

Very poor description and explanation of the 'New Athiest' positions on Islam at the end, and obviously completely underestimated WCA's ability to fight back through mis-and-disinformation campaigns.

Important work

Very well done. I wish the reader hadn't used different "voices" for quotes, however. Recommend!

Important book

In this important book, highly recommended for all adults, the author manages to adequately recognize the value of White Christian America, as well as the value of our current, pluralistic, moving beyond White Christian America.

Thoughtful Analysis

A very well written and thoughtful analysis of the demise of the political influence of traditional "white Christianity" and it's current forms of the religious right.

first chapter was best

there was too much discussion about the internal politics of the Evangelical right. What the title of the book promised was a placement of Christianity with in America in total. only the first chapter addressed that aim.

Overall, an excellent...

Overall, an excellent and insightful audible book. Narration was superb, minus a couple of excerpts where the voiceover was a bit too "performative", it was a thorough pleasure. The information is easy to understand, but nuanced enough for listeners to (hopefully) hold an empathetic ear to the fears and anxieties held by an aging slice of a waning cultural group that has never extended much of the same to others, as well as the possible ways by which we might all find a new social grace and tolerance for each citizen's notion of "freedom."

Interesting Prospective

The author provides an interesting perspective on the influence of white Christian America on American culture and how WCA is slowly losing that influence. I will probably invest in the print copy so I can explore some of his concepts more extensively. The narrator did an excellent job as well.

What Happens. Now?

This work is obsolete in light of the history and wreckage of Donald Trump. He has totally energized the religious right and religious nationalism. There is no relief from the horrors of the evangelical natioalism. We are experiencing a certain death of this country, with or without white Christianity.
