Malcolm Muggeridge contends that Christendom is quite different from Christianity. Christ said, "My kingdom is very much a part of this world, and thus subject to decay and eventual ruin." In this book, Muggeridge explores the prevailing downfall of Christendom. However, contrary to our natural impulse to mourn this, Muggeridge makes a cogent and convincing argument that now is a time to rejoice, "for it is precisely when every earthly hope has been explored and found wanting...that Christ's hand reaches out sure and firm."

If the past is a foreign country then it's good look for the wisest voices. Malcolm Muggeridge lived through so much of history and saw it first hand it's hard to believe he's left so much wisdom, humor and wit hidden and unknown to so many people. Some relevancy, some dated ideas (evolution was suspect to him) but always a pleasant companion.

Short and insightful.

Malcolm muggeridge has a way of
communicating complex ideas through very simple stories and examples. his view of the press is applicable to our modern times including social media.

Overall, Muggaridge makes his points clear and concise. It summizes years and books worth of theology and philosophy in three short chapters. In fact, it's so shrewdly put together I had to relisten to several key sentences multiple times just to soak in their meaning. He stated in the book that truth is on the top of a craggy mountain and it's climb to it a difficult one. Very well put. I can see why the late Ravi Zacharias spoke so foundly of him.

Shrewd & sweet, it's an absolute fantastic listen!

Warnings about power and putting hope in any State are important reminders, especially since US Christians have in many instances assumed right wing politics and Christianity are almost the same thing. I found the narrator’s voice annoying at first. The accent sounded like a high school kid over-acting a British snob. I know it is just the way the person talks but it detracted from my ability to sense the true humility of Muggeridge’s voice.

Interesting

There is a vast difference between Christianity and Christendom. Christendom as we know it today may be disappearing but the message and presence of Christ still prevails against all odds as exemplified by history over the last 2,000 years.

Prophetic on present day state of affairs!
